A genius Minecraft player discovered a way to jump higher than ever, using a potion and an Elytra to achieve an impressive leap. Mojang’s 3D voxel sandbox is more than its seemingly infinite world generation and fans are still discovering new secrets to Minecraft even more than a decade after launch. Consistent updates such as the nearby Caves & Cliffs Part 2 Update add more content for players to explore, but even updates of the past have undiscovered features still waiting to be unearthed.

The Elytra is one feature that was released back in 2015 that is still giving Minecraft players new ways to play. The unique gear can be found in end ships and grants the ability to fly. The rare wings allow players to glide around the map, providing a quick escape from dangerous heights or a fun way to explore nearby terrain. While simple uses for Elytra involve shooting off fireworks or using Riptide-enchanted tridents to gain speed, some players have uncovered hidden ways to utilize the rare item. One Minecraft player created a TIE Fighter using Elytra, avoiding the need to purchase the Star Wars resource pack. Another player discovered a unique trick in which combining Elytra with leashes, pigs, and saddles lets players take passengers along for the ride. But now a new use for Elytra has been discovered.

Reddit user Bluekoma used a potion of slow falling and an Elytra to jump higher than ever in Minecraft. After drinking a potion of slow falling, Bluekoma equipped an Elytra and leaped an incredible seven blocks. After practicing a few times with the seven-foot block height, Bluekoma added a dirt block to their tower, eventually achieving an eight-block leap in a single bound. Bluekoma discovered how to jump higher in Minecraft by accident while testing to see how they could glide only using the Leaping II and Slow Falling status effects.

Bluekoma utilized the potion of slow falling’s status effect in Minecraft to become essentially weightless, combining the new skill with an Elytra to glide upwards eight total blocks. Usually, Minecraft players are limited to a single block per jump, with some in-game items like the slime block or Jump Boost II potions increasing a player’s vertical slightly. But the potion of slow falling and Elytra method is the highest jump achievable without mods, bringing the highest possible jump to eight blocks. The method can be used to reach new heights without having to place ladders or other blocks.

The Potion of Slow Falling was added to Minecraft in 2018 within the Update Aquatic. It took more than three years for players to learn the jumping tactic, which drastically increases jump height in Minecraft. It’s safe to say that when Mojang releases Caves & Cliffs Part 2, the possibilities in Minecraft will expand to drastic new heights as well.
