Elytra Wings in Minecraft are perhaps the rarest and most difficult piece of armor/gear to get in a survival world. The Elytra Wings allow the player to glide around in the air and fly with the help of Fireworks or an enchanted Trident. Elytra Wings take up the chest plate slot in-game and are the only item that can give players the ability to fly in a survival world. Although the wings are technically armor pieces, they cannot be crafted using any materials in the game. Elytra's can only be found in floating End Ships, which are located in End Cities, which can only be found after defeating the Ender Dragon, so, getting a pair of wings is no easy feat.
Players will have to take on the Ender Dragon and End Cities irritating, but lethal, Skulkers in order to get their hands on an Elytra. Player's should try to get the best Minecraft enchantments for their armor and weapons pieces before they set out into the End Dimension. Players will want a good Bow and a lot of arrows (unless they have the Infinity enchantment) to both take out the Ender Dragon and deal with Skulkers in End Cities. A pair of Feather Falling enchanted boots can be a lifesaver in End Cities, as the projectiles shot from Skulkers will actually make the player float upward for a few seconds before plummeting to the ground.
After players have enchanted their gear and are ready to battle the End Dragon in Minecraft, they should stock up on cobblestone or dirt blocks. The only way to get off the End Island the dragon and player spawns on is to build off of it using sneak so they don't fall into the End's void and lose all of their gear. Players could always try to get to The End faster without preparations, but it would be difficult to kill the End Dragon and even more difficult to get a pair of Elytra Wings.
Where to Find Elytra Wings in Minecraft
Players will have to get themselves to an End City after defeating the Ender Dragon in order to find Elytra Wings in Minecraft. After the Dragon is defeated, begin building off the island in any direction using cobblestone or dirt until there is more land in sight. End Cities will randomly spawn on any of these other land formations, so be patient while looking for them because they are very rare. Once players arrive at an End City, they'll have to look out for what looks like a floating ship in the air. If there is a floating ship, players will have to move up the Skulker-filled towers of the city until they can build themselves over to the ship. A Minecraft Bow or Crossbow is the best way to deal with Skulkers safely. Once players get onto the floating ship, a pair of Elytra Wings can be found in an item frame below the deck of the ship on the wall.
Minecraft players can equip the Wings and double-click jump to glide right off the ship towards the nearest end portal to leave the end. Small portals with Bedrock around them will spawn near End Cities and teleport the player back to their spawn bed if they throw an ender pearl at it. Players can double jump off any elevated surface to glide in Minecraft, but the only way to fly is to use craftable Fireworks while in the air. Players can also fly with Riptide enchanted Tridents when it is raining in their survival world. However, players should immediately look to put the Unbreaking and Mending enchantments onto their wings, as they are one of the weakest pieces of gear in the game and lose durability upon every flight.
