In celebration of Minecraft Dungeon's one-year anniversary, developer Mojang revealed in a blog post that the game has surpassed 11.5 million unique players across 232 countries and territories. The popular dungeon crawler and Minecraft spin-off title released on May 26, 2020.

Though Minecraft Dungeons received generally favorable reviews upon its release, it wasn't a critical darling or blockbuster hit along the lines of the original Minecraft. Nevertheless, the charm of a Diablo-light gameplay loop combined with a Minecraft-inspired art style and setting drew a sizeable audience. Regular expansions - including Jungle Awakens, Creeping Winter, Howling Peaks, Flames of the Nether, and Hidden Depths - kept current fans satiated while enticing more players across all platforms. Minecraft Dungeons is currently in the midst of the Dungeons Anniversary Event Celebration, which began on May 26 and lasts until June 8. The celebration is the most recent seasonal event to offer unique rewards for players who participate.

With the one-year anniversary event "at the zenith of its festivities," the developer of Minecraft Dungeons revealed in a blog on the Minecraft website that the game has surpassed 11.5 million total players. Along with this impressive accomplishment, Mojang listed a number of other noteworthy stats regarding Minecraft Dungeons. For instance, players have dealt a total of 1.5 quadrillion damage and received a mere 107.5 trillion - a net positive overall.

In Apocalypse mode, the most used melee weapons are the Double Axe, the Whirlwind, and the Fighter's Bindings, while the most used ranged weapons are the Rapid Crossbow, the Firebolt Thrower, and the Exploding Crossbow. The three most popular armors are the Mystery Armor, Wolf Armor, and Fox Armor. In terms of Artifacts, players prefer the Death Cap Mushroom, the Gong of Weakening, and the Boots of Swiftness. Over 1.1 billion Health Potions have been used, which is notably more than the 547 million Swiftness Potions and the 565 million Strength potions consumed. The last three statistics list 13 billion items used, 527 million TNT thrown, and over 419 billion blocks walked. These numbers encapsulate just how much players have engaged with Minecraft Dungeons since launch.

Given that Minecraft is currently the best-selling game ever, it was expected that Minecraft Dungeons would garner at least a few million players on name association alone. That said, the game is not a sandbox title like Minecraft, and it's the first major spin-off of the IP developed by Mojang, so its success wasn't entirely guaranteed. The game is also available in Xbox Game Pass on both console and PC, so a number of those who played it didn't actually buy it. A player count of over 11.5 million, however, reveals that Minecraft Dungeons is a definite success with an audience all its own.
