Mojang recently updated Minecraft to 1.16 otherwise known as The Nether Update. This update focuses mainly on the Nether, Minecraft's personal hellscape, adding new biomes, mobs, and materials. One of these materials is Netherite that is crafted using Ancient Debris and Gold Ingots. Netherite is the first material to be released that is stronger than diamonds since Minecraft's conception in 2009. And while the material is hard to come by, it doesn't take much to of it to craft a full set of armor and some new tools.

Netherite can only be obtained by mining Ancient Debris which is found in the depths of the Nether. Players will need to mine quite a lot in order to find the four Ancient Debris pieces needed to craft a single Netherite Ingot, but luckily that is all they will need to start upgrading their gear to the next level. Netherite tools and armor are much stronger and more durable than diamond gear making the hunt for Ancient Debris pieces well worth the time and risk.

Crafting Netherite Tools and Armor in Minecraft

Minecraft Netherite Items

Once the player has their hands on a Netherite Ingot they can start upgrading their diamond gear to Netherite gear. To craft a Netherite Ingot players will need four pieces of Ancient Debris and four Gold Ingots which can be crafted together to create a single Netherite Ingot.

Luckily, players only need one Netherite Ingot per armor piece or tool that they are wanting to upgrade. Players will need to acquire a diamond tool or armor piece that they are wanting to upgrade and will need to put the Netherite Ingot and Diamond gear in a crafting table together. If a piece of diamond gear is enchanted, upgrading it to Netherite Gear will remove the enchantment so be mindful of what you are upgrading.

Netherite Gear Stats in Minecraft

Yeah, Netherite is better than Diamond, but how much better are we talking? Well, for starters all Netherite armor and tools are immune to lava meaning if a player dies while mining or in the Nether and their gear drops into lava it's no problem. The player can just go back to where they died and fish their gear out of the molten lake.

All armor pieces also have 1.3x the armor protection of diamond armor which scales with enchantments. And players wearing Netherite Armor resist knockback which helps when creepers, ghasts, or phantoms try to push the player off of ledges.

As well, all armor and tools are far more durable than diamond gear which allows them to last longer, especially when enchanted with unbreaking. And Netherite tools do more damage than diamond tools. However, in terms of speed, while the base tools are faster than diamond tools by a small amount, once enchanted it is impossible to tell the difference between speeds.

But most importantly, Netherite gear looks awesome and players can finally look as tough as their gear is without wearing bright blue jumpsuits made of diamonds.
