A team of talented Minecraft builders has spent 9 years so far on an insanely complicated and detailed modern city, which looks like a real-world photograph rather than just a screenshot. It has what it takes to be one of the most promising builds in Minecraft ever - if not the most ambitious creation in the game’s history.

From its very early days, Minecraft has been praised by the creative community for its unprecedented freedom and endless opportunities to build and design everything with blocks. There are several dedicated websites where players share their creations with others and even paid services with shockingly detailed purchasable Minecraft creations of huge scale. On top of that, the technology behind the game allows for realistic user-developed visual upgrades and mods, which further increase the beauty of Minecraft’s voxel world. All that, along with other genre-defining features of the game, contributed to Minecraft attracting over 100 million monthly active players in late 2019.

This vast community includes talented Minecraft architects and builders, with some of them spending years on their dream projects. One of those dedicated enthusiasts, NJDaeger, shared the result of a 9-year-long Minecraft building initiative over on Reddit. According to the user, a team of creators has been building an insanely complicated modern Minecraft city called Greenfield since 2011 – and it’s not even finished yet! The shared screenshot reveals a massive portion of the build, which looks like a real-world photograph if minimized - or at least like an image from GTA 5. There’re all sorts of impressive details and authentic solutions to make the city look believable, such as skyscrapers, monorails, road junctions, building sites, and even helicopters above the rooftops. For a handcrafted masterpiece, the city does look like a project of sincere passion.

It’s not just the community making the most out of the game, though. Mojang continues to support the existing versions of Minecraft across all the platforms with the never-ending flow of new content, updates, and features. One of the most eyebrow-raising accomplishments of the development team is the recent Minecraft Windows 10 Beta with RTX. In terms of visual quality, the technology makes the voxel-based game look better than most of the modern AAA high-budget titles.

Minecraft remains a true phenomenon in the gaming industry. It is a fairly old game, which continues to grow its player base steadily and expand into new genres with several spin-offs. New technological advances - like native RTX support - will likely boost Minecraft’s popularity even further resulting in new shockingly realistic voxel creations and builds, which are always so satisfying to observe.
