Actress and writer Mindy Kaling looks back on The Mindy Project in a throwback cast photo. The Mindy Project, which Kaling created and starred in, premiered in 2012 and ran for six seasons. The popular series originally aired on Fox but was canceled after season 3. Hulu then picked up The Mindy Project for season 4 and eventually seasons 5 and 6 as well. The Mindy Project completed its run in November 2017.

The romantic comedy series follows the complicated personal and professional life of Dr. Mindy Lahiri (Kaling), an OB/GYN working at a medical practice called Shulman & Associates in New York City. Shulman & Associates is filled with a charming and zany cast of characters, played by an impressive ensemble cast including Chris Messina, Ed Weeks, Adam Pally, Xosha Roquemore, Beth Grant, and Ike Barinholtz (who also wrote for the series). In later seasons, they are joined by Fear the Walking Dead’s Garret Dillahunt as well as Fortune Feimster and Rebecca Rittenhouse. Fans of The Mindy Project loved the show’s hilarious comedy and swooned over its romance, particularly Kaling and Messina’s characters’ will-they-won’t-they relationship.

Now, nearly four years after The Mindy Project ended its run, Kaling shares a throwback cast photo. In addition to Kaling, the picture features Weeks, Rittenhouse, Feimster, Dillahunt, Barinholtz, and Roquemore. In her caption, Kaling points out that Grant, Pally, and Messina are missing from the photo, describes how much she loved filming the conference room scenes, and says, "Man I miss these guys." Several of Kaling’s The Mindy Project castmates commented on the photo, including Dillahunt, who responded, “So much fun.” Rittenhouse chimed in, “I miss this so much,” and Feimster concurred with both by saying, “We had so much fun. I miss you guys". The actors weren’t the only ones to reply to Kaling’s post: Salvador Perez, The Mindy Project’s costume designer who now works on Kaling’s Netflix series Never Have I Ever, commented, “the good ole days!”

Fans of The Mindy Project may hope that Kaling’s nostalgia for the series may be an indication that some sort of reunion or reboot is in the works, but so far there’s no proof that’s the case. In today’s reboot-obsessed television landscape, though, anything is possible. Kaling says she’d be open to a reboot of The Office under the right circumstances, so at the very least, it seems she’s not against reboots as a concept. However, Kaling is busy with other projects right now: in addition to executive producing and writing Never Have I Ever, which she created with Lang Fisher, Kaling is co-writing the screenplay for Legally Blonde 3 and has several other films and series listed as “in development” on IMDB. Even if a return to The Mindy Project isn’t in the cards, Kaling fans can look forward to plenty more of her trademark wit and relatable humor in the years to come.
