Tyler Whitman from Million Dollar Listing New York is a winner in the New York real estate game, and we are here to talk about how he got sober. While his Million Dollar Listing co-star Fredrik is living the American Dream, Tyler has been inspiring others by sharing information about living an alcohol-free life. From realizing he has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol to staying sober during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tyler has opened up about his sobriety journey.

Tyler has been a main cast member on Million Dollar Listing New York since the eighth season of the show in 2019. Before landing on the reality television series, Tyler was inspired to become a broker after a bad experience with the broker that he hired to help him move to New York. According to his Tyler Whitman LinkedIn, the reality star has been working at NYC real estate agency Triplemint since 2013. While Tyler has had an extensive career in the real estate industry, his sobriety journey is relatively recent.

35-year-old Million Dollar Listing star Tyler Whitman did not realize he had a drinking problem until he spoke with his life coach about his drinking habits. According to Forbes, Tyler was surprised to discover that he had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. Tyler shared with his life coach that he was drinking "6 glasses of wine a day." His coach found this to be concerning, prompting Tyler to understand the seriousness of the issue. Tyler also revealed that he was actually drinking closer to 12 glasses of wine a night, rather than 6. When Tyler attempted to drink less, he realized he had a drinking problem. Tyler was able to connect his heavy drinking to his past food addiction.

As a gay man living in the South, Tyler experienced feelings of insecurity that resulted in an unhealthy relationship with food. Tyler was eager to move to New York City where he could find a gay community. He also wanted to find a loving relationship like Fredrik has with his husband, Derek. Unfortunately, Tyler's insecurity grew after his move to the Big Apple. Tyler explained that he felt he lost control during his first years living in New York. Although surgery helped Tyler to overcome his struggles with food, a different approach was needed when it came to his alcohol addiction. Tyler explained that he would stop drinking for a week "and then need to take a whole week off of work because of drinking so much." Ultimately, Tyler realized that his addiction stemmed from his insecurity, which had pushed him to overdo it with food and alcohol.

Tyler has been sober since April 2020. While his Million Dollar Listing co-star Ryan Serhant stayed in his luxurious home during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tyler was challenging himself to stay sober. Although the stress of living through a pandemic caused many to drink more than usual, Tyler decided it was the right time to start his sobriety journey. With all bars closed and social events banned, Tyler had no temptation to drink to ease his social anxiety. Tyler found support from Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and sober co-workers and clients. Currently, Tyler feels more supported and connected with his community than he ever has.

Tyler has a confident air on Million Dollar Listing New York, but he has faced a multitude of obstacles behind the scenes. He should be very proud of tackling his addictions to food and alcohol. He's now been sober for over a year, and Tyler is an entirely new person on Million Dollar Listing New York.
