One of Milestone Media's fan favorite titles, Blood Syndicate, is returning to comics after a long absence. DC Comics has released a trailer previewing the upcoming series reboot set to release later this year.

When Milestone’s return to DC Comics was announced with three ongoing titles, Static: Season One, Hardware: Season One, and Icon and Rocket: Season One, the popular group of meta-humans known as the Blood Syndicate wasn’t included in the lineup. As the first phase of Milestone’s comic book comeback wraps up with the first season finales of the initial three series, Blood Syndicate has been slated to be the next rebooted title.

In a new trailer released by DC Comics, fans can have a sneak peak of what’s to come in Blood Syndicate: Season One #1, written by Geoffrey Thorne (Green Lantern, Truth & Justice) with art by ChrisCross, who previously illustrated the original title. Although the upcoming title is described as a “reimagining” of the vigilante gang, many characters are returning, such as Wise Son, Tech9, and Fade. Thorne spoke on the series, saying, “Wise Son is essentially indestructible and super strong. Tech-9 can make any weapon he can think of. Fade is basically able to walk through walls.” The monthly series depicting the return of a key presence in the Milestone Universe is set to begin in May.

Following Wise Son and Tech-9’s return to home from their time in the military, they quickly learn that Dakota City has changed with the Big Bang. Set after Static, Hardware, and Icon and Rocket, the new status quo will be explored throughout Blood Syndicate: Season One. However, the book centers around Paris Island, where heroes aren’t the norm. With the introduction of the Blood Syndicate, the Dakotaverse will continue to expand, creating the exciting possibility of crossovers as teased by Icon and Rocket #6 in which Static showed up alongside the titular super duo.

As Static: Season One revealed, the Dakotaverse reboot is respecting the source material, with the versions of characters that fans expect to see. Just as Static incorporated elements of the original 90s run, it also implemented aspects of the animated series Static Shock. While the first issue of Blood Syndicate might not fully resemble the iteration that fans remember, it is likely to lead up to a more recognizable depiction. It took Static’s first season for Virgil Hawkins to embrace his superhero identity. Similarly, it might take some time for the core members of Blood Syndicate to join the team. Some characters like Aquamaria might even show up in other Milestone series such as Static: Season Two, before appearing in Blood Syndicate, as she had been depicted in Static Shock with a memorable storyline. As the Dakotaverse expands, fans can continue to expect quality storytelling from the imprint with the debut of Blood Syndicate.
