Tobey Maguire’s iconic performance from Spider-Man 3 has been referenced in Spider-Man: Miles Morales by Insomniac, and it just makes perfect sense. But while Miles is cosplaying arguably the best cinematic Peter Parker, he can turn into literally anything in the game thanks to a hilarious glitch.

As discovered by players, Miles can turn into various objects just by swinging around and performing regular actions in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It all started with the titular character transforming into a brick, or a Spider-Brick since it continues to use web-shooters and fight criminals. It was later confirmed that the glitch is capable of turning Miles into street lamps, T-shirt stands, piles of snow, and even wall sections. While Insomniac surely won’t hesitate to patch the funny bug out, it should definitely be preserved for future generations in one form or another - much like the notorious horrible NPCs from Marvel’s Spider-Man were referenced in the PS5 remake of the game.

As discovered and shared on Twitter by RippedBozo (and probably witnessed by everyone else who has already finished the game), Spider-Man: Miles Morales pays a brilliant homage to the Spider-Man 3 movie starring Tobey Maguire by recreating the iconic scene of his inexplicable dance after being infected by Venom. Right in the finale, the game puts the titular character in a similar situation where Miles slowly dances down the street warmly greeting passersby, which makes perfect sense accompanied by the soundtrack from the motion picture. The key difference, though, is that Miles actually gets welcoming greetings from citizens while Tobey was being met with surprised, annoyed, and at times, even disgusted looks. Interestingly, it all started in Marvel’s Spider-Man with Peter Parker adopting Tobey’s finger guns move to interact with New Yorkers.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales also has a much clearer reference to the recent animated film dedicated to the character. Miles' suit from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is available in the game, and it’s not just another generic cosmetic item for Miles to craft. Instead, the Spider-Verse costume inherits both the style and low framerate from the animated movie, which makes it an impressive addition to the game, as well as a respectful nod toward the cartoon’s designers.

While the camera work and general moves are slightly different, Miles’ dance is an obvious nod to the iconic Spider-Man 3 scene, and it’s just another pop-culture reference hidden in plain sight in Insomniac’s gaming franchise. This is the multiverse fans deserve, and finding such interconnections must be a true pleasure for devoted Spider-Man fans. Additionally, the scene works perfectly well to reduce the drama after the Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ final events.
