Warning! Spoilers ahead for Young Squadron #1

In the latest one-shot comic tying into Marvel's Heroes Reborn, Miles Morales is revealed to have become the Marvel equivalent to DC's Robin, specifically Tim Drake. In this remade and remixed Marvel Universe, Nighthawk is one of Earth's premier heroes, serving as an analog for Batman. Likewise, he also experiences the death of his partner Falcon, just like DC's Dark Knight did with his second Robin Jason Todd. However, Miles Morales soon emerges with intentions to replace Nighthawk's partner as the new Falcon, though things don't go nearly as well for Miles as they did for Tim.

In Marvel's Heroes Reborn event, the universe has been changed with the drastic shift of the Squadron Supreme of America becoming Earth's Mightiest Heroes instead of the Avengers who never assembled at all. However, this major change created a whole domino effect of changes, which include the differing life paths of the Champions, now known as the Young Squadron in this new one-shot from writer Jim Zub and artist Steven Cummings. While Ms. Marvel has taken after Power Princess as Girl Power and Nova is now Kid Spectrum following in the footsteps of Doctor Spectrum, Miles Morales' journey in Young Squadron #1 is much different than those of his comrades, as they were quickly accepted by their mentors on the SSA.

In Miles' case, he grew up idolizing superheroes, with a particular love for Nighthawk and Falcon, the Batman and Robin of this changed reality. However, Falcon was killed by Nighthawk's nemesis known as the Goblin, tragically mirroring the death of Jason Todd's Robin who was killed by the Joker in DC Comics. Sometime later, Miles saw an opportunity to audition to be Nighthawk's new Falcon complete with his own flight gear that he built himself. Likewise, this also bears a similarity to how Tim Drake auditioned/applied to be Batman's next Robin. However, Nighthawk rejected Miles...hard.

Miles-Falcon-Nighthawk-Rejection

Despite being shut down by his idol and Nighhawk's threats to put him in juvenile hall, Miles was still determined to work as the new Falcon. He was then motivated to find and team up with Girl Power and Kid Spectrum, and together they formed the Young Squadron. However, they soon got in over the heads thanks to a conflict with an even more vicious and crazed Deadpool. While they ended up saving the day, Deadpool helped them come to the realization that the SSA aren't quite what they thought them to be.

This leads to the teens changing their team name as the Champions, wanting to be better as the next generation of heroes. However, Nighthawk was revealed to still be on the lookout for Miles as the new Falcon. Despite his claims that he wanted to "help" Miles, both Girl Power and Kid Spectrum were smart enough to realize that Nighthawk was lying, and they covered for their new friend. While it seems as though the relationship with Marvel's version of Batman didn't transfer over, it's still cool to see Miles Morales as the new Falcon and Robin counterpart nonetheless in Heroes Reborn.
