Warning! This post contains SPOILERS ahead for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1

Marvel Comics' new series for Miles Morales has begun, and it's exactly what the iconic Webslinger needs. While Miles' Spider-Man may share the same city and reality with Peter Parker ever since 2015's Secret Wars, this new era is setting up Morales to have some significant growth and evolution that will be incredibly exciting to see. Not only is Miles beginning to face new struggles in his personal life, he's also facing obstacles while being Spider-Man as well.

As seen in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 by writer Cody Ziglar with art by Federico Vicentini, Miles is currently facing a new season of life where he's finding it hard to "always get back up", a core part of being Spider-Man his movie counterpart learns in the animated Into the Spider-Verse film. As it stands, Miles is fairly overwhelmed with everything that's hitting him all at once such as tensions with his teachers, the ongoing Powers Act outlawing underage vigilantism, as well as his romantic interest in Tiana Toomes' Starling. As such, his stress and frustrations are at an all-time high, proving that this new era will be challenging Miles like never before (and that's a good thing).

Marvel's New Miles Morales Series Promises Exciting Spider-Man Growth

Miles Morales' Gets His Own Struggles As Spider-Man

This first issue is incredibly dynamic on two fronts. The vulnerability on display from Miles is incredibly touching, showing that any hero can get overwhelmed at times. Likewise, this first chapter also highlights the fact that the iconic Spider-Man catchphrase coined by Peter Parker's Uncle Ben is just as inspiring and valuable as ever, encouraging Miles and helping him refocus by simply saying those nine powerful words out loud.

At the same time, this issue makes it clear that Peter Parker isn't exactly available to come to Miles' aid personally at the moment. Dealing with his own significant trials and struggles in his own comic series, the absence of the original Spider-Man should prove to be quite beneficial for Miles, allowing him to figure out how to face these new challenges on his own as he continues to grow and become his own unique Webslinger. However, that doesn't mean Miles shouldn't utilize the support to be found in his family. If anything, this issue proves he could and should rely on them more.

At any rate, this first issue is quite impressive, promising a very personal journey of exciting growth for Miles Morales which is most welcome. Here's hoping this new Spider-Man era continues to challenge Miles with the issue to come. Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
