Marvel's Miles Morales has always been a friend and fan of Captain America, but now the famous Brooklyn Spider-Man officially wields the shield in stellar cover art. The new upcoming series What If...Miles Morales tells the tale of a superhero who was never bit by a radioactive spider, and instead became America's champion, defending peace and justice around the country and beyond. Cover art released by Marvel shows exactly what Morales will wear while waging a war against evil.

Miles Morales is a very recent addition to the Marvel Universe. He first appeared in Marvel's Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) and took over the role of Spider-Man in that world, getting a signature black-and-red costume that payed homage to Peter Parker's original suit while still maintaining his own look. Since then, his popularity has exploded, and Miles transitioned over to the mainline 616-universe. He even received a well-regarded feature film, 2019's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, with a highly-anticipated sequel set for 2022.

In What If...Miles Morales, readers will watch as the new unyielding shield-wielder charges into battle wearing a new Captain America uniform. The suit bears a striking resemblance to the suit Bucky Barnes wore when he was the Star-Spangled Man, complete with a more narrow profile, a lack of a belt defining the torso and legs, and a v-shaped theme on the chest. Additional art sees Miles' Spider-Man mask worn underneath the Captain America suit, with the points of the star overlapping the red-and-white stripes below - and sketches show Miles may retain his web-slinging acrobatic abilities while carrying Cap's signature circular shield.

Further promotional material released by Marvel labels Miles as a "Friendly Neighborhood Captain America" and stipulates that Miles will be given his own Super-Soldier Serum and will be trained by the United States Government. "What makes Miles a hero no matter the circumstances, no matter the reality?! And are there OTHER super heroes the many Miles of the multiverse might have become instead of Spidey?!" This leads one to assume Miles will encounter other alternate-universe versions of himself - a common theme in Miles Morales-centric works as of late, especially considering his two films and the many Spider-Man crossovers in the comics.

The new series will release next year, but for now, the Marvel faithful must be satiated with tantalizing glimpses of Miles' future adventures via spectacular cover art. Spider-Man is a fan-favorite character, no matter the universe, so this adventure is sure to be a must-read for the massive Spidey fanbase. Miles Morales will suit up as Captain America beginning in March 2022.
