The three Mighty Ducks movies actually make up one of the greatest movie trilogies ever, as each entry is just as good as the last and they all introduce interesting new characters and continue to build on the world that started with the first movie. And with a load of great releases in 2020, that world is about to expand even further, as one of those shows is the Disney+ series, Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

With it being official that Emilio Esteves is reprising his role as Coach Bombay, it has led to a lot of speculation about who may and may not show up. With a series filled to the brim with exciting and fiery characters, there are tonnes to choose from, but these are the characters who have to show up.

Connie

Connie And Dwayne VS Iceland In D2 The Mighty Ducks

Connie featured in all three of The Mighty Ducks movies, and she’s one of the few female characters in the movies that doesn’t serve predominantly as a love interest to another character.

Though the scenes might be totally cringe-worthy now, as she lightly taps a rival player and he crashes to the ground, Connie is one of the biggest badasses of the movie and is totally hard as nails. She’s also responsible for one of the best quotes of the series.

Hans

Hans

Though the original actor is getting on a bit, as Josh Ackland is 92 and seemingly retired from acting in 2014, Hans was the most adorable character of the first movie. Hans was the one who trained Bombay how to skate when he was a child, and he opened the doors of his hockey store to the whole of the Ducks to inadvertently trash.

Even if it’s impossible for Hans to appear in the series, there needs to be at least some sort of nod to the iconic character.

Guy

Guy and Connie in Mighty Ducks

Guy was a fascinating character, as he had an obsession with Connie - an almost unhealthy obsession - as he would serenade her with empty platitudes. On top of that, the character has a fantastical wardrobe, wearing strange hats and odd scarves, but he was never explored beyond his love for Connie, despite seeming like one of the most interesting players on the team.

Actor Garrette Henson hasn’t starred in much since, except for Casper, one of the '90s movies that aged terribly, so Disney should throw him a bone.

Banks

D2 The Mighty Ducks Locker Room

As there always is with Disney movies, Banks plays the token outcast who struggles to fit in and be accepted by the group, as he was transferred to the Ducks from the team’s biggest opponent, the Hawks.

Of course, after the Ducks beat the Hawks, Banks is finally accepted into the group, and he continued to be a staple of the team for the following movies. Though it’s unlikely we’ll see the character, as actor Vincent LaRusso hasn’t worked since 2010, it’d be exciting to see him nonetheless.

Jesse

Jesse in Mighty Ducks

Jesse is the loudmouth of the group and he has one of the funniest jokes of the series, as he first suspects Coach Bombay of being a big-time drug dealer trying to sell the kids drugs when he rolls up in a limo on the ice.

Unlike many of the other characters featuring on the list, Jesse didn’t actually show up in the third Mighty Ducks movie, and it’s unknown as to why, so it could easily be cleared up in the TV show.

Goldberg

Goldberg in Mighty Ducks

The character of Goldberg might be one of the things about The Mighty Ducks series that doesn’t hold up, as he was the subject of a ton of fat-shaming and was even tied to the net while his teammates slung hockey pucks at him.

However, there was a ton of heart to Goldberg and as he was the comic relief of the series, he was the core of most of the movies’ funniest scenes. If he came back, it could be a great chance to give his character some better arcs.

Russ

Russ in Mighty Ducks

D2: The Mighty Ducks was Kenan Thompson’s first role in a movie and he clearly made an impression, as he has gone on to become an extremely successful comedian, a resident actor over at Saturday Night Live, and is responsible for some of the best SNL sketches.

If Disney was to cast any of the old actors for the new series, this would be the most logical decision, as Thompson is inarguably the most famous, and his character in the movies was one of the most loved.

The Bash Bros.

The Bash Bros

Besides Kenan Thompson, Elden Henson, who plays Fulton Reed - one-half of the bash brothers - arguably had the most success of the Mighty Ducks cast, as he had a major role in Netflix’s Daredevil and has a ton of great scenes.

Though Fulton had an interesting background in the first movie, as he was seen as the mysterious character of the group, he becomes much more interesting in D2, as he is joined by Dean Porter, and the two form the Bash Brothers and inadvertently become the best thing about the third movie.

Averman

Averman In The Mighty Ducks

When he’s not working at the movie theatre, he’s playing pranks on his team or terrorizing his neighbors. Either love him or hate him, Averman is one of the funniest of the ducks, and one of the best things of the original movie was how he constantly annoyed Coach Bombay with his dumb hockey chants.

It’d be great to see Averman show up to frustrate Coach Bombay just a couple more times.

Charlie

Charlie In Mighty Ducks

Of course, the big star attraction of the original series was Emilio Esteves, who played Coach Bombay, but everybody knows that the whole trilogy was really about Charlie, played by Joshua Jackson.

While it’s great that Esteves is back reprising his role, it was Charlie who carried the hockey team and it was Jackson who carried the movies. If Charlie doesn’t appear in the upcoming series, it’ll be Mighty Ducks blasphemy.
