Midsommar is one of the best psychological horror movies of all time, combining romance with elements of mystery, murder, and severe trauma to create a chilling experience like no other. From Dani's shrieks of pain and sadness to the brutal ways many of the characters end up being killed, this movie is one that leaves viewers stunned as they watch.

While the movie is visually beautiful and the cult-style behaviors are intriguing, it is the characters themselves that really drive everything that happens. The manner in which they behave and operate dictates what happens to them throughout, and the cast did a superb job in the film. But aside from dancing around the Scandinavian fields, where else do people know the cast?

Will Poulter (We're The Millers)

Will Poulter in Midsommar and We're The Millers

Will Poulter has already had a terrific career, appearing in some amazing movies and television shows. He's also appeared in a range of genres as well, and he got the chance to work in horror with his performance as Josh in Midsommar, who was an arrogant young man who comes across as the least likable character in the movie.

However, in We're The Millers, Poulter shows a totally different side of his acting ability. This is a great comedic movie where he gets to star alongside some major names where he has to pretend to be part of the family so that David Clark can smuggle drugs across the border from Mexico to the USA.

Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age Of Extinction)

Jack Reynor as Christian in Midsommar and as Ryan in Transformers Age Of Extinction

Jack Reynor's character, Christian, was an equally unlikable soul and someone who treated his partner terribly throughout the movie. Rather than comforting her or trying to look after her, Christian is more obsessed with himself, and the fact he steals Josh's thesis idea only confirms what type of a person he is.

However, outside of this movie, Jack Reynor is best known for being part of the Transformers franchise. He played the character of Shane Dyson, who was a rally car driver in Transformers: Age Of Extinction, where he gets to be a hero this time around.

Ellora Torchia (The Split)

Ellora Torchia in Midsommar and The Split

Ellora Torchia is one of the supporting characters within Midsommar, playing the role of Connie, who is brought to the festival alongside her boyfriend. However, unlike everyone else who gets brought, she isn't impressed by what she sees and calls the cult out for their actions.

Connie attempts to get away, but it's something that doesn't work out for her, like the rest of the group. Ellora Torchia does a great job in the movie, making Connie one of the most likable characters, and outside this movie, she's best known for being part of the television show The Split.

Archie Madekwe (Les Miserables)

In Midsommar, Archie Madekwe plays the role of Simon, who turns up to the festival alongside his girlfriend, Connie, as two of the outsiders. Initially welcomed in, Simon and Connie make the decision to leave after being horrified by what they see from the cult.

The character is a supporting role, but one that gets put through a lot within the movie. Outside of this horror world, Archie was part of BBC's television series based on the musical, Les Miserables, where he played one of the men on the barricade, Courfeyrac.

Gunnel Fred (Strul)

Gunnel Fred plays the character of Siv in the movie, who is one of the older characters who is seen as wise and all-knowing when it comes to how the cult lives and operates. She is happy to make big decisions on behalf of the group as well as the people from outside.

She is silently pulling the strings for a lot of the madness that takes place throughout the movie, and Gunnel plays her well enough to appear innocent enough, only for that not to be the case. She's best known for her work in the Sweedish movie, Strul, where she plays a policewoman who is saved by the lead character that is in prison after being framed.

Henrik Norlén (Modus)

The character of Ulf is an interesting one, as he falls for the cult and what they tell him. Much like Pelle, Ulf brings several outsiders to the group as he is responsible for Connie and Simon being there. However, despite the fact he helps to kill them, he ends up having to sacrifice himself in the end anyway.

However, the cult lies to him about the pain, which he was supposedly not going to feel. Outside of this movie, Henrik is best known for being part of the television show, Modus, which is a psychological thriller. In the show, he plays a police investigator, responsible for trying to catch a hitman on the show.

Isabelle Grill (Tennis Dad)

Isabelle Grill portrays the character of Maja in Midsommar, who is already a member of the cult when the making group arrives. She's someone who takes a liking to Christian and spends her time in the movie flirting with him, eventually winning him over.

She did a great job in the movie, making her character innocent yet also eerie with her performance. Aside from this horror movie, Isabelle is best known for her role in the Sweedish movie, Tennis Dad, where she plays the lead role of Malin, who is put under pressure and forced to play the sport by her father, despite the fact she's lost interest in playing.

Vilhelm Blomgren (Gösta)

The character of Pelle is a complex one in Midsommar, initially starting out as someone caring, who seems to want the best for his friends. However, he is ultimately a big part of the cult, and his main aim is simply to bring them in as victims.

Aside from being part of Midsommar, Vilhelm is best known for his work on the television show, Gösta. The series follows a young psychologist who begins trying to help other people, and it is Vilhelm who takes on the lead role in this series.

William Jackson Harper (The Good Place)

William Jackson Harper in Midsommar and The Good Place

The character that William Jackson Harper plays in Midsommar is similar to who he plays in The Good Place, with the main trait of each character being their intelligence. In Midsommar, Josh heads to the festival because he wants to study them for his thesis, however, he takes things too far in trying to find out as much information as possible, breaking the rules that are set for him.

That's something his character in The Good Place would never do though. Chidi is smart and works hard to teach the rest of the group how to be better people with his philosophy knowledge, and breaking the rules isn't a trait that Chidi doesn't have.

Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family)

Florence Pugh in Midsommar and Fighting With My Family

Florence Pugh is an incredibly talented actress and someone who has quickly made a name for herself in recent years. Her role as Dani in Midsommar brings the best out of Florence, showcasing a range of emotions as she has to deal with major trauma, as well as being accepted by the cult in a big way.

It was a great performance from Florence which carries the movie, but she first truly broke out by portraying WWE Superstar, Paige. She got the chance to portray the wrestler in a movie that was all about her life story and the journey it took to get from England to being a champion in WWE.
