Midnight, Texas season 2 brought the supernatural drama to an unexpected close – here’s a recap of the main events of the season and what went down in the finale. The first season of Midnight, Texas premiered in 2017 and introduced the inhabitants of its titular setting – a mysterious small town home to a host of supernatural beings including psychic newcomer Manfred (François Arnaud), good witch Fiji (Parisa Fitz-Henley), fallen angel Joe (Jason Lewis), his demon husband Chuy (Bernardo Saracino) and vampire Lem (Peter Mensah).

Comparisons with True Blood were kind of inevitable. After all, Midnight, Texas is based on the novel trilogy of the same name by Charlaine Harris, who also wrote the books True Blood was adapted from. Airing three years after True Blood ended proved a smart move for Midnight, Texas which found a home with fans of the fantasy-horror genre.

While season 1 of Midnight, Texas saw the town’s residents successfully prevent hell being unleashed, in season 2 the big bad was Patience, who arrived in town to open a hotel with her husband Kai. It soon transpired Patience and Kai were less concerned with hospitality than about harvesting supernatural energy to awaken Theophilus, the father of dark magic. The trouble is they’ve only got his head and need a vessel to bring him back to life. They select Manfred for this purpose and recruit Fiji to aid them in their evil plans.

Manfred gets magically transported into a painting where he meets original white witch Delilah, who gives him the lowdown. Patience is actually the twin sister of Theophilus and once upon a time the three of them were good friends, with Delilah and Theophilus engaged. That's until Theophilus and his sister’s relationship turned incestuous and unleashed a dark magic. Delilah retaliated by chopping off Theophilus’ head and told Patience – by then pregnant with her brother’s child – she’d stripped her of her magic and place a curse on all her descendants. Patience responded by having her son banish Delilah to the painting for eternity, where she’s forced to continuously battle a mysterious knight.

By Midnight, Texas' season finale “Yasss, Queen” it looked like Manfred and mankind were doomed after Patience beheaded him to complete Theophilus’ return. Luckily, it turned out Manfred was safe after Kai – who Patience had been duping the whole time – switched places with the help of a spell that made him look like Manfred. This compromises Theophilus’ resurrection and he starts to deteriorate before Manfred decapitates him. Fiji – evil and without a soul since earlier in the season – gets hold of a new soul and joins forces with a now freed Delilah to defeat Patience who is banished to the painting alongside Theophilus.

Midnight, Texas season 2 ends on a cliffhanger with the reveal Fiji is pregnant with her human boyfriend Bobo’s possibly evil baby and a new threat is approaching the town in the form of the knight from Delilah’s painting. Unfortunately, NBC canceled the show a week before its finale aired so fans never got to see how this played out.
