Robert De Niro is producing Midnight Run 2 with Regina Hall set to star. Midnight Run was released in 1988, starring De Niro opposite the late Charles Grodin. The film was a buddy-comedy directed by Martin Brest, who also helmed Beverly Hills Cop and Scent of a Woman, and written by George Gallo, who would go on to write the story for Bad Boys. The plot sees De Niro's bounty hunter, Jack Walsh, pursue a bail-jumping former mafia accountant, Gordin's Jonathan Mardukas, while avoiding both the FBI and the mob.

As reported by THR, Hall will star in Midnight Run 2, with De Niro acting as a producer on the project. The sequel is being written by Aeysha Carr, who previously wrote for hit shows like Everybody Hates Chris and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The plot details of Midnight Run 2 are still under wraps, though it's likely to work with a similar buddy cop comedy setup.

A theatrical sequel to Midnight Run has been trying to get off the ground since the 1990s. However, the hit film was previously adapted into three TV movies in 1994, called Another Midnight Run, Midnight Runaround, and Midnight Run for Your Life. Those films saw Christopher McDonald stepping into the role of Jack Walsh in place of De Niro. While he is only acting as a producer on Midnight Run 2, it marks his first involvement with the property since the original film. It's also possible that De Niro could appear in the movie, though that has yet to be confirmed. Further details on Midnight Run 2 will be forthcoming as the sequel gets further into development.
