Mike Flanagan's next horror show for Netflix is The Midnight Club, headed to the streaming service in 2022. A modern horror master, Flanagan first made his name within the genre on the big screen as the director of Oculus, Oujia: Origin of Evil, and Doctor Sleep. His talents have proven to be a match made in heaven with Netflix, though, with Flanagan's The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass all earning widespread acclaim from critics and subscribers alike.

Flanagan seems to have a natural talent for crafting effective horror stories, even if he's yet to receive the awards recognition he rightly deserves. With The Midnight Club, Flanagan — working alongside Bly Manor collaborator Leah Fong — sets out to adapt the classic young adult horror novel of the same name by author Christopher Pike. In an interesting twist, though, that book will not be the only inspiration for the Midnight Club series, as it will also pay homage to other Pike works.

The intricacies of The Midnight Club's plot are unsurprisingly being kept close to the vest, but the basic premise of the show hues close to its namesake book. A group of seven young adults lives together in the Rotterdam Home hospice facility, gathering every night to regale each other with tales of terror. The teens make a pact that whoever dies first will get back in touch with the others from beyond the grave, and that agreement is unexpectedly fulfilled, leading to some supernatural creepiness.
