The AI-powered Bing by Microsoft is getting a massive upgrade on the Xbox, going from a simple search engine to a highly detailed gaming guide. The tech giant recently joined the ChatGPT bandwagon, integrating Open AI’s popular chatbot into Bing to optimize the search engine’s performance. The tech giant also went further and announced the fusion of ChatGPT with other software like Teams and Skype, promising a better user experience.

Before the upgrade, Xbox users could use Bing, like any other search engine, to look up information about everything from the games they are playing to news about the latest movies and TV shows. The AI-powered facelift makes the search tool much more capable, with Microsoft saying that it is “designed to help you find the information you’re looking for by deciphering intricate questions, with clear answers, coupled with surprisingly in-depth responses.” Like on desktop and mobile, Xbox users will have to join to Bing waitlist to get the latest iteration of the search engine on their devices.

An AI-led Gaming Guide

An ongoing conversation between a gamer and Bing

There’s no dearth of games available on Xbox, especially if someone is an Xbox GamePass subscriber. But gamers understandably have specific tastes. Bing will let players find the right games by taking all specified criteria into account, and users can get as granular with their requests as they want. Looking for a first-person shooter with a female protagonist set in Europe in the 1980s? All a player needs to do now is ask Bing.

Beyond finding the right game, the new Bing will also let users find the best characters and load-outs, figure out how to get the best weapons and accessories, and even recap a game’s storyline and provide context on what’s been covered and what’s left. But players can push even further down the rabbit hole and go really strange with their requests too.

These weird queries include wanting the steps for baking a Portal cake, learning how to cook a ramen-themed meal, or even asking Bing to customize a three-day music festival lineup where games, not artists, are billed as the performers. With AI fused with Bing, every inquiry, no matter how weird it sounds, gets a detailed reply.

Although AI integration optimizes the search engine’s efficiency, gamers who prefer completing games without help may not be as accepting of this new feature, especially when it’s advertised as a “guide.” However, casual gamers and those fixated on achieving 100 percent completion will appreciate easy access to the resources they need to get the most out of the game. Microsoft is making some interesting moves with AI and Bing, but it'll be interesting to see how the new addition to search on the Xbox will work in practice.
