Last month we reported on the news that Mickey Rourke may be teaming up with director Tony Scott for a crime-drama entitled Potsdamer Platz, possibly alongside Jason Statham and Javier Bardem. But now news has surfaced that Rourke may be teaming up with Scott not just for Platz, but another project entitled Hell's Angels.
Deadline reports the news that Rourke and Scott are in talks for the Iron Man 2 star to play Sonny Barger, the real-life tough guy who helped transform the Hells Angels motorcycle gang into a nationwide organization. The rights to Barger's memoir was sold over a decade ago, but it's only now that the project is starting up again over at Fox 2000.
The studio has brought on Scott Frank (Minority Report) to do a heavy rewrite on the Hell's Angels script that is being described as a "Donnie Brasco-like drama." Not only would it be about Barger experiences within the titular motorcycle gang, but also would feature a young cop who infiltrates the gang in order to investigate possible criminal activities.
Who would play that young cop? Well, there are no prizes for guessing that Shia LaBeouf's name has been brought up (according to Deadline, Scott has met with him already), but no deals have been closed for any actors (including Rourke) as of yet. But apparently the role is, "so perfectly tailored for Rourke that is is hard to imagine another actor who could more convincingly play a character who wears the hard miles and brawn of a grizzled biker gang veteran."
I don't think we need anyone to tell us that - we can get that vibe just looking at Rourke! (Let's not forget his role in Francis Ford Coppola's Rumble Fish, pictured above, where he played a character called "The Motorcycle Boy"). With his role in Iron Man 2 and the upcoming action-fest The Expendables continuing his comeback, Rourke is in top-form right now and is here to stay. Personally, I couldn't be happier about that.
As far as the other Scott/Rourke project, Potsdamer Platz, it appears Rourke, Statham and Bardem are stilling circling the project as was reported last time. But still no deals have been confirmed with any of the three actors.
Just as a reminder, Potsdamer Platz (which is the name of a busy German commerce center) is about two soldiers in a New-Jersey based crime family who attempt to expand things internationally.
Would you like to see Mickey Rourke play a biker in Hell's Angels? And would you like to see Shia LaBeouf star as the young cop?
