Hmm, does the fact that no known US actors jumping on the role worry anyone? Personally, I’m looking forward to the show, and hopefully, they pull it off, and appeal to the broad audience that dictates success or failure. I was a bionic fan from day one with the $6mil guy, and I wasn’t too thrilled about a bionic woman being added to the fray, but it is what it was.
Ryan also says that part of her preparation is working with a dialect coach, an acting coach, trekking up mountains in Vancouver and doing krav maga work and working with a personal trailer..
Ah, .. Acting Coach??!!? Hopefully that means fine tuning certain parts of her skillset!
Ryan will play Jaime Sommers, a young woman who is badly injured in a car accident and her body parts are replaced with bionics, giving her superhuman abilities. (Where's Steve Austin in all this!!??)
So far, Ryan has only filmed the pilot episode of the series, but she's already had some tough scenes, like the climactic fight with co-star Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), who plays Sarah Corvis, a rogue bionic woman and a rival to Ryan's Sommers. (A BIONIC Cat Fight!! Cool.)
Ryan said that the writers have some interesting ideas for where Jaime's going to go, and “I think, ultimately, it's going to be about a strong, young woman and her journey of self-discovery and empowerment. And I felt like I identify with that, because I'm 23, and I'm learning about so many new things." (Of course she’s strong!! She’s Bionic!!!)
So my take / expectation is the show will be about her adjusting and accepting her new parts, and apparently, like previous bionic show efforts, there will be the bad bionic person, which isn't a new theme, but maybe NBC, et al, will pull this old story off. I already 'see' good reasons for the show to linger for at least a little while.
Bionic Woman premieres Sept. 26 and will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. (NBC is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.) Here's crossing my fingers and we'll see what the new show has to offer us!!
