The Office was a sitcom about the modern-day lives of those working in an office setting in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Revolving around the failing paper company, Dunder Mifflin, we become very familiar with regional manager, Michael Scott (Steve Carell), and how he runs his office.

Unlike any manager in the entire world, Michael Scott runs his office as one would run a circus; and yet, it's one of the most achieving branches Dunder Mifflin has. As the assistant to the regional manager, salesman Dwight Schrute would do anything to become Michael's closest confidant and the hopeful regional manager of Dunder Mifflin should Michael leave.

Due to Michael and Dwight's passion for paper and Dunder Mifflin, the two do some pretty horrible things to maintain their presence at work. However, it's not just work where these two find themselves doing some pretty outlandish things — it's in their personal lives as well. Take a look at 10 horrific things Michael and Dwight have done to decide which one is the worst of the worst.

MICHAEL: OUTTED OSCAR

Michael Scott Kissing Oscar

After making a collection of homophobic remarks, Toby calls Michael into a meeting to discuss appropriate language in the workplace. Not realizing Oscar was actually gay, Michael claims he was just saying those words because he says it to everyone.

After realizing Oscar actually was, in fact, gay, he makes it his mission to make the office aware that Oscar is gay and that it was okay. (In reality, no one cared whether Oscar was gay or not — just Michael.) What transpired was Michael outing Oscar to the office without his consent and forcing him to kiss him in front of everyone.

DWIGHT: CREATED A 'FAKE' FIRE

After becoming upset that the office didn't listen to his fire safety meeting, Dwight decides to create a fake fire to put his lesson to the test. He heated the door handles to make them hot to the touch, he cut off the phone lines, and put everyone into such a panic that he gave Stanley a heart attack! This was just many of the reasons why corporate gave Dwight three strikes. It was also appalling that Dwight didn't regret any of it. He simply looked at the disaster as a means for preparation for a real disaster.

MICHAEL: PROMISED TO PAY FOR 3O KIDS' COLLEGE DEGREES

The Office Scotts Tots

Quite possibly the most uncomfortable and awkward moments in The Office is when we learn that Michael promised 30 at-risk students that he'd pay for their college tuition.

Known as "Scott's Tots," Michael felt such a connection to these kids at a young age that he knew he wanted to do something nice for them. He also figured he'd be a multi-millionaire by the time he was in his 30's, so paying for the tuition of these students wouldn't have been a big deal. The problem is Michael was nowhere close to being a millionaire by the time these kids graduated and had to break the news to them when they were seniors in high school...

DWIGHT: MADE PHYLLIS WALK BACK TO THE OFFICE TO LOSE WEIGHT

Phyllis Smith The Office

In an effort to become a healthier corporation, Dunder Mifflin set out a prize for the office for whichever office loses the most weight. This competition gets nasty when Kelly basically starves herself and Dwight decides to pick out the heaviest people in the office who have the most weight to lose.

Sadly, he led Phyllis to believe he wanted to take her on a sale's call but what emerged was Dwight dropping Phyllis off in a bad part of town so she could burn some calories walking back to Dunder Mifflin. With no wallet or phone, Phyllis was shaken up and called the company's CFO to complain.

MICHAEL: BULLIED TOBY MERCILESSLY

As Michael Scott famously said "If I had a gun with two bullets and I was in a room with Hitler, Bin Laden, and Toby, I would shoot Toby twice." That should be enough evidence to show you how much Michael despises his HR rep Toby.

Toby's never done anything to deserve this mistreatment from Michael, it's simply his job to control Michael and to keep the office safe. But Michael views his job description as a fun sucker. He's kicked Toby out of meetings, tried to get him fired multiple times, planted "drugs" in his desk, and threw some low-ball insults his way. Luckily for him, Toby took the punches with strength but any other HR rep would file a complaint to get him fired.

DWIGHT: TRIED TO TAKE MICHAEL'S JOB FROM HIM

Michael and Dwight the Office

After Michael gets scolded by Jan for simply being Michael, Dwight's office lover, Angela, urges him to gun for Michael's job. He's already in hot water and Dwight does know the company inside and out, so why not approach Jan with a proposition?

The problem with this, of course, is Jan told Michael that Dwight approached her and was undermining Michael. This made Michael look like a weak manager. Knowing how dedicated Dwight was to Michael, Michael pretended to hire Dwight as acting manager until he finally gave Dwight heck for trying to hurt their friendship and his position at Dunder Mifflin. As payback, Dwight had to do Michael's laundry for a month.

MICHAEL: BANGED PAM'S MOM

Michael found himself in a few strange relationships, but none were odder than his relationship with Pam's mom, Helene. After meeting at Pam and Jim's wedding in Buffalo, the two spent the night together and were inseparable after that. Pam was irate when she heard the news and pressed Michael to end the relationship out of respect for her. But did he? No. He dated her "harder," if anything.

The relationship came down in flames just as Pam was coming around to the idea after Michael found out how old Helene was. The thought of being with someone that "old," scared him so he broke up with her on her birthday, of all times!

DWIGHT: SHOT A GUN IN THE OFFICE

After Michael leaves Dunder Mifflin for good to start his own life with Holly out in Colorado, Dwight becomes acting manager (you know, after the manager Michael hired lands himself in a coma). In an effort to impress his new boss, he brings a gun to work and wears it in a stylish holster. This obviously makes everyone in the Scranton branch uneasy and rightfully so because Dwight accidentally shoots the gun in the office! Buzzing by Andy's head, Andy temporarily loses hearing in one ear and Dwight gets demoted once word reaches the new boss.

MICHAEL: TOLD THE BUFFALO BRANCH THEY WERE CLOSING AT A COMPANY PICNIC

Michael, AJ, and Holly from The Office sitting at a table.

Dunder Mifflin sure has had some company downfalls over the years. They had to downsize a few times, which shifted many workers and their families. In classic Michael style, he's never heard of the "right place and the right time" concept.

During a company picnic, Michael and Holly were set to perform a skit as entertainment for the company. Unfortunately, the skit was anything but funny... Michael and Holly told all the workers and their families that Dunder Mifflin was closing the Buffalo branch in an effort to be funny, but it was anything but funny...

DWIGHT HAD AFFAIRS WITH ANGELA FOR YEARS

The Office Angela Robert Dwight

Even though there are many fans out there who think Dwight and Angela are perfect together, they did a bunch of horrible things together. It's almost like their wacky personalities fed the other. And although they should have never broken up in the first place, these two continued to sleep with each other even when Angela was engaged to Andy and married to the senator. We know love can be hard and emotions can get the best of us, but everyone knows you shouldn't cheat on your partner. Come on, guys!
