Michael Madsen Talks Tarantino's Vega Brothers Spinoff Film

In a recent interview on the WAA Boston Hill-Man Morning Show actor Michael Madsen (Kill Bill: Volume 2) revealed some new information about a potential Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs spinoff/sequel, originating from Quentin Tarantino himself.

Apparently the "master of pop cult homage" was on a vacation in Tijuana, when he came up with a new idea that would unite Madsen's Reservoir Dogs character, Vic Vega (aka. Mr. Blonde), and John Travolta's Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction in a new movie together.  Well, sort of.

Here's the general idea in Madsen's own words:

"I'd be Vic Vega's twin brother, [John Travolta would] be Vincent's twin brother and we're both on a flight from Los Angeles, having just been released from prison, and neither one of us know that we're the twin brother of the other one and we're both on our way back to LA to avenge the death of our brothers."

Got that? ;)

Now Tarantino has talked about doing a prequel to Pulp Fiction that would feature the Vega Brothers for a long time now, but Madsen admits that he and Travolta are a bit old for that now (it has been sixteen years since Pulp Fiction came out, after all).  So if the two actors were to (essentially) take on their respective on-screen Tarantino personas again, a sequel is the only thing that makes much sense in terms of continuity - unless they just ignore the age problem (a la Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector in Brett Ratner's remake of Red Dragon).

That said, take this news with a big grain of salt for now.  Tarantino has gone on in the past about how his next project will be Kill Bill: Volume 3 or a remake of Faster, Pussycat!  Kill!  Kill! or even possibly an erotic "skin" flick (re: lots of shots of bare feet).  Plus, even a film like Inglourious Basterds took a long time to actually go into production, so don't expect to see a Pulp Fiction/Resevior Dogs spinoff anytime soon.

Will we ever see the Vega brothers together on-screen?

Now to be fair, Tarantino isn't attached to any specific project right now, and, after the success of Inglourious Basterds, he can pretty much do whatever he wants next.  Still, this new idea of his sounds more than a tad bit silly and convoluted - but hey, if anyone could pull it off it'd be Tarantino.

So what do you folks think about this?  Do you think Tarantino might be on to something brilliant here?  Did he just have too much to drink?  Or should he just forget about doing anything else with Pulp Fiction and focus on Kill Bill: Volume 3 or an entirely new project?

Like I said, don't look for a Vega Brothers Movie to get into gear anytime soon but we'll keep you updated on any future development of this and other proposed Quentin Tarantino films.
