Now that the new ABC comedy series The Neighbors has been given a full season order, it's time to spice things up a bit with a recognizable name from the big screen.
One episode later this season might be getting a little explosive as Transformers franchise director Michael Bay makes a guest appearance. But who will he be playing?
TV Line says Bay will be playing himself in an episode slated to air sometime early in 2013. The director will run into Debbie Weaver (Jami Gertz) while she's out at a nightclub for an adult night on the town. This could be an interesting meeting if any of her alien neighbors are with her.
If you recall, Bay's name popped up in the second episode of the season, and it's alluded to that he might even be an alien himself. In a conversation Marty Weaver (Lenny Venito) had with alien parents Larry Bird (Simon Templeman) and Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye) about the accuracy of sci-fi movies and their representation of aliens, he mentions that he thinks Bay might have inside information on that front due to the realism in the Transformers films. Jackie then whispered, almost in shock and worry, "How does he know about Michael Bay?"
Of course, Michael Bay could easily just be another alien going by a famous name, much like the rest of the neighborhood. Either way, having the director show up should be pretty fun, and I'm hoping for a slew of references to his explosive filmography including Armageddon and Bay Boys. It seems like the appearance will happen well before his film Pain & Gain arrives in April, so it doesn't sounds like there's any promotional ties or gimmicks attached to it for now.
The Neighbors continues to be a surprising success, and the full season order more than proves that. Some critics outright destroyed the new series in reviews, but this writer found it rather enjoyable and keeps turning in for every new episode. Families seems to have found their way to this show as well, and like having it around every week.
The Neighbors airs Wednesdays at 8:30/7:30c on ABC.
