Michael B. Jordan has shared a behind-the-scenes photo from his unexpected cameo in the new film, Space Jam: A New Legacy. Space Jam 2 premiered last Friday, and while it didn't win out with critics, it did beat out Marvel's Black Widow to take the top spot at the box office. Space Jam 2 features the Looney Tunes' return, but unlike the original, which featured NBA superstar Michael Jordan, current NBA star LeBron James was tapped to step into Jordan's shoes. The plot sees a rogue artificial intelligence, played by Don Cheadle, kidnapping James' son, forcing him to team up with the Looney Tunes to win a basketball game to get him back while saving the world in the process. However, audiences were ill-prepared for the cameo the film had in store.

Space Jam: A New Legacy had a lot of fun setting up the cameo, as it came at a pivotal point in the movie. During halftime of the film's climactic game, James and the Looney Tunes are down and out as they face a seemingly insurmountable score deficit going into the second half. When all hope seems lost, Sylvester tells the other Tunes that he found a secret weapon in the audience. Without hesitation, Daffy Duck starts to list all the basketball achievements of Michael Jordan as his entrance music plays and a figure steps through in shadow. As their newfound secret weapon steps into the light, audiences are treated to a hilarious case of mistaken identity as they lay eyes on Michael B. Jordan.

Now that the film has been out for a few days, Michael B. Jordan took to Instagram (via CinemaBlend) to share a behind-the-scenes photo of himself posing with LeBron James on the set of Space Jam: A New Legacy. In the photo, Jordan wrote, "Another milestone," which illustrates the importance of Space Jam and the cameo for the actor. It also goes to show just how game he was to make an appearance when the production knew they weren't getting Michael Jordan back. Check out the photo below:

Since the sequel to Space Jam was announced, audiences have been curious about whether Michael Jordan would appear in the film. Jordan was never interested in doing a sequel, which was enough for most to assume he wouldn't be involved with the project. However, just a few months ago, Cheadle let slip that Michael Jordan does appear in Space Jam 2, but it would be in an unexpected way. Eager fans started wondering what Cheadle meant as they pondered how Jordan would return for the sequel, but nobody was quite ready for the humorous truth. Michael Jordan does appear in the film, but the unexpected way Cheadle mentioned was that it would be Michael B. Jordan, not the original film's star.

Having fun with Jordan's cameo is just one of the many ways Space Jam 2 went about incorporating new aspects into the sequel. The film sees the Tunes venturing to many unexpected places, like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Matrix, while also peppering the movie with Batman villains and even White Walkers from Game of Thrones. There is even a quick shot of the alien antagonists from the first film watching the final game. For audiences yet to see Michael B. Jordan's cameo, Space Jam: A New Legacy is in theaters and streaming now on HBO Max.
