With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever set to hit theaters in a few weeks, Michael B. Jordan addresses a possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Breaking through for his role as Wallace in The Wire season 1, Jordan is best known as the boxer Adonis in Creed and Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, both written and directed by Ryan Coogler. Now, Jordan makes his directorial debut on Creed III, due out next year, while Coogler is back as director of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In 2018's Black Panther, Jordan played the role of N'Jadaka, also known as Erik Stevens or Killmonger, a former Navy SEAL who seeks to overthrow his cousin T'Challa as the king of Wakanda over disagreements about how to rule the nation. Due to his well-developed backstory and sympathetic motive, Killmonger is widely regarded as one of the best villains the MCU has seen. Even though he died at the end of Black Panther, fans of the character have held out hope for Killmonger's return to the MCU, with some eyeing Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as a possibility.

During a recent interview with ExtraTV discussing Creed III, Jordan also addressed a possible return to the MCU. The actor admits to not knowing if that is even a possibility, though if there were ever an opportunity for Jordan to come back to the franchise, he would be eager to return. Read his full comments below:

I don’t know if it’s a possibility. I mean, at one point or another, being able to be in the Marvel Universe was like a dream come true and if there was an opportunity for me to come back, of course I would. I’m not one of those guys like 'oh no, I would never.' Working with [director Ryan Coogler], what we did on that first project and what Marvel does as a whole is something that, as a fan, as a nerd and geek that I am, I just love to see those movies and those characters come to life.

How Could Michael B. Jordan Return to the MCU

Erik Killmonger in Black Panther

Following his character's death in Black Panther, Jordan did return to the MCU and reprised his role as Killmonger for the animated anthology series on Disney+, What If...?, which explored alternate timelines in the multiverse. Still, fans remain interested in seeing Jordan's return in live-action, which has resulted in various theories about how Killmonger could return in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, including one about how the character will be resurrected and succeed T'Challa as the king of Wakanda and the next Black Panther.

Despite the multiple elaborate theories that abound, Jordan is unlikely to return to the MCU in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever or beyond, which is a good thing. Killmonger is one of the most highly regarded villains the MCU has seen, and bringing him back from the dead could risk undoing his heralded status, especially considering the MCU's track record of fake-out deaths. While the chances of Jordan returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are slim, his talent as both an actor and a first-time director will be on full display in Creed 3, releasing on March 3, 2023.
