Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia Season 6, Episode 8One of the most valuable heroes in all of My Hero Academia has turned out to be Aizawa, AKA Eraser Head, whose ability allows him to deactivate the Quirks of others. But after Shigaraki's latest attack, that advantage may be a thing of the past.

In the battle against the newly awakened Shigaraki, the only thing that's kept him from disintegrating everyone present has been Aizawa's icy glare. It's no surprise, then, that Shigaraki would make getting rid of Aizawa a priority. What none of the heroes knew at the time was that Shigaraki was in possession of a few of Overhaul's old Quirk-deleting rounds, ironically made from the power of Aizawa's young ward, Eri. Aizawa already suffered a hit to his Quirk's effectiveness when he received eye damage battling against a Nomu, so even a small dose could render his power useless.

Shigaraki makes his intentions against Aizawa clear, essentially daring the other heroes present to stop him. Deku delivers a powerful Wyoming Smash, but it's not enough to stop him. He actually ends up brutally thrusting his hand through Ryukyu's dragon claw, then flicks the round with his bare hand, which still gives it enough speed to strike Aizawa in the leg. Ryukyu is at least able to recognize it and shouts out that it's a Quirk-deleting round, giving Aizawa a heads-up as to what's going on. With not much time, Aizawa pulls out his knife and grimly moves toward his own leg.

Based on when Mirio lost his Quirk, the deleter rounds seem to inject the victim with a serum that then spreads throughout their body, so it's certainly possible that cutting off blood flow to and from the affected area could stop its effects. No one has ever tried this before, however, so Aizawa is taking a big risk if he thinks cutting off his leg will save his Quirk. Still, Aizawa has made it clear at incidents such as the USJ that he's a practical man who can do what needs to be done, and he's already seen firsthand how valuable his Quirk is in a fight against a being with as many superpowers as Shigaraki has. His Quirk isn't just important to him; it may well be essential to stopping these villains, so anything and everything must be on the table when it comes to preserving the only advantage the heroes have. Aizawa can at least approach this knowing he won't be the only hero to lose a limb, as Miruko took some major damage to her left arm and right foot during the earlier fight with the Nomu.

A lot of My Hero Academia's future is riding on whether Aizawa gets to keep his Quirk, so fans will just have to keep their fingers crossed and hope that his sacrifice isn't in vain.
