Metroid Dread is the newest installment of the Metroid series, introduced at Nintendo's latest E3 panel. Acting as the sequel to Metroid Fusion, Metroid Dread will see Samus exploring a dangerous planet and be hunted by an even more dangerous foe. This robotic enemy is known as E.M.M.I. and is completely invulnerable to Samus' attacks. The only option for Samus is to run and hide, tasks made easier thanks to some of the new equipment she has. Fans of the Metroid series can purchase the Metroid Dread Standard Edition or the Metroid Dread Special Edition.

While the addition of another Metroid game may be special enough, the Metroid Dread Special Edition comes with special perks for the most dedicated of fans. The Special Edition offers additional game materials, including a game case and various artworks from the game's concept stages. Both versions of Metroid Dread are available now for preorder on the Nintendo eShop.

The Metroid Dread Special Edition releases on October 8th, 2021, on Nintendo Switch. The package will include the Metroid Dread game and a steelbook. The physical copy features the artwork of a blue armored Samus with E.M.M.I. pouncing at her from behind. The case itself features Samus crouched in front of the silhouettes of peaks, with robotic eyes peering down at her.

Perhaps the biggest attraction for the Metroid Dread Special Edition is the game's artbook that will ship with it. The artbook features concept art from Metroid Dread's development. From the images released by Nintendo, the concept art will include various depictions of Samus' armor and appearances throughout the game. Concept images featuring the landscapes of Metroid Dread's unknown planet are also present. As is the case with most artbooks, notable enemies such as E.M.M.I. are likely to appear, giving fans of the Metroid series a deeper look into how the robotic menace came to be.

In addition to the concept art, fans that preorder Metroid Dread's Special Edition will receive five art cards featuring art from all the 2D Metroid games. This art mirrors the style that is present in each, with Nintendo's featured image displaying the classic pixel art from the original Metroid. While some of the art cards are still obscured, it appears the final art card will also feature work from Metroid Dread. The silhouetted mountainous landscape seen on the last art card mirrors the design that is present on the steelbook.

The Metroid Dread Special Edition is available now for preorder for $89.99 at select retail stores. Dedicated Metroid fans celebrating the newest installment of a beloved franchise will surely enjoy all this edition has to offer. Metroid is a franchise that has been experiencing a long content drought, and it appears Metroid Dread will alleviate this soon. Metroid Dread is scheduled to release October 8th, 2021, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
