The official Metal Gear Solid Twitter account may have just teased a possible coming announcement for the franchise. This cryptic message follows a number of rumors around Konami, the developer of Metal Gear Solid, and the future of the franchise now that Hideo Kojima is no longer at the helm.

Metal Gear Solid was first developed in 1998 for the PlayStation 1 and has continued making sequels all the way to the PlayStation 4. Now that the lead creator, producer and director of the franchise, Hideo Kojima, has left Konami, fans are wondering where the series will be going. It has been six years since the last major Metal Gear game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and it seems that Konami is ramping up to make a new title.

Despite the lack of official news about the Metal Gear series since Kojima departed the studio, fans have been holding out hope that the franchise will be able to recover. Only recently, the official Metal Gear Solid Twitter account became active once more, tweeting out a strange and cryptic tweet. In a response to another tweet from an in-universe Metal Gear character, the account seems to be teasing a possible new announcement for the series, referencing that something or someone may be coming next week.

The original tweet comes from a fictional character Twitter account for Tom Olsen, who is linked to the events of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Under the account bio, their job is described as a maintenance technician at the Big Shell, a location featured heavily in the second Metal Gear game. One interesting thing to note is that the account was only made a week ago and has since then been tweeting about Big Shell. In one of the tweets, the Metal Gear account responded that more visitors could be coming to the location, with fans seeing this as a hint that something to do with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty could be in the works.

A recent rumor on 4chan has some fans theorizing that a Metal Gear Solid collection could be coming to the PlayStation 4. Another rumor going around is that Bluepoint Games is in the process of remaking the first Metal Gear Solid. Neither rumors have any strong sources, so they should of course be taken with a grain of salt. The recent tweet is the closest lead currently indicating a new Metal Gear Solid game on the horizon. Fans will just have to wait until next week and see if anything happens.
