Hollywood's leading action heroes all became icons by doing something extraordinary, whether it's mowing down small armies, or going up against the galaxy's most lethal creatures. When the dust settles, these are the guys action movie buffs remember, and they show no signs of losing their iconic status any time soon.

On the video game front, few action heroes are as tough-as-nails as Solid Snake, from Hideo Kojima's famed Metal Gear franchise. This guy is the best of the best, and anyone who wants to topple him from the top spot had better bring the goods. If these two universes ever merged, some action movie heroes that could win out, whereas others would go down faster than perimeter guard.

Win: Dutch Schaefer (Predator)

Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch Schaefer, a special forces soldier who fought the Predator

Snake may have gone up against some of the most difficult enemies imaginable, but he did so firing from the hip. There's no telling how he'd fare in a fight with a Yauja Predator, but chances are he would hold his own, and potentially win. Dutch Schaefer, on the other hand, has fought one up close, and lived to tell about it.

Dutch is not only physically superior to Snake, but he's a combat veteran with years of experience under his belt. He's infiltrated some of the most brutal regions in the world, and walked out smoking a cigar. His real strength, however, is planning. Dutch is a master of traps and on-the-fly adaptation, and these would overwhelm even someone as talented as Snake.

Lose: John Wick

John Wick, a master assassin called out of retirement to seek revenge

John Wick is a badass on his worst day, and he's killed more bad guys than most cinematic toughies. However, Wick is better known for taking on scores of relative foot soldiers, as opposed to big-time heavies. If there's anything the John Wick movies have taught viewers, it's the titular hero can, and does take a beating when he goes up against seasoned opponents.

That alone would make him the loser in a one-on-one with Snake. Yes, he's got the moves and the stamina, but Snake is a cut above the rest compared to most soldiers. He's taken on genetically engineered super-soldiers and foes with uncanny powers, only to win every time. John Wick would have a hard time managing even a third of that.

Win: John Rambo (First Blood)

John Rambo, a Vietnam vet suffering from PTSD who goes back into the country to rescue hostages

Few soldiers are as brutal and efficient as John Rambo. In many ways, his character helped inspire the template for the Solid Snake character, and it shows. Pound for pound, the two would find themselves evenly matched, which means a win would be scored on the most razor-thin of margins.

Rambo never stops moving, and this is his main advantage. He's just as good at stealth and infiltration as Snake, but his willingness to relocate and re-strategize within a split second is slightly ahead of Snake, who prefers to stick to rudiments. Plus, Rambo doesn't need a support team to get his job done; just the nearest lethal killing weapon.

Lose: Braddock (Missing In Action)

Chuck Norris as former P.O.W. Braddock in Missing In Action

Colonel James Braddock is a one-man army, and when he's angry, lots of explosions and deaths are soon to follow. He made a name for himself the Missing In Action films as a Vietnam P.O.W. who ventures back into the jungle to rescue American soldiers still under lock and key behind enemy lines.

While Braddock is indeed a formidable warrior, he's mostly gone up against cannon fodder in the form of genetically trained Vietcong soldiers. Snake, by contrast, was a full-fledged member of Fox Hound, which is about as elite as they come. Braddock would put up a good fight, but he'd lose to Snake in the end.

Win: Chance Boudreaux (Hard Target)

Jean-Claude Van Damme as Chance Boudreaux, an expert soldier who busts a human hunting ring

Some guys have a natural inclination for war, and Jean-Claude Van Damme's Chance Boudreaux is one of them. Originally a Reconnaissance vet for the Marine Corps, Chance fell on hard times and became a homeless drifter in search of odd jobs, at least until he crossed paths with Natasha Binder, a woman looking for her missing homeless father.

When Chance uncovered a high-stakes human hunting racket led by the enigmatic Emil Fouchon, he single-handedly took on his entire army and laid waste to them all. This is bragging rights, and something that would give him a win in a fight with Solid Snake, who prefers infiltration and stealth over high-octane war.

Lose: Snake Plissken (Escape From New York)

Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a lawless anarchist forced by the government to take a mission

Snake Plissken represents the other half of the character influence that went into Metal Gear's own Solid Snake, and the similarities are obvious. Both are gravelly-voiced, cigarette smoking tough guys who aren't afraid of anything, and don't take any flak from anyone.

The similarities end there, however. While Plissken is obviously not someone who should be trifled with, he hasn't been through half the stuff that Solid Snake has. Fox Hound training trumps Plissken's own brand of combat, but the two would be more evenly matched in comparison to other opponents here.

Win: Tequila Yuen (Hard Boiled)

Chow Yun Fat holding shotgun in Hard Boiled

Hong Kong detective Tequila Yuen made a huge splash when his character debuted in the ultra-classic John Woo action-fest Hard Boiled, which is considered one of the most masterful action movies ever made. As a cop, Tequila has been through the roughest of the rough, and lived to tell about it.

While Snake is an expert in subterfuge and infiltration, Tequila is a quick thinker with gun skills that are difficult to rival. Snake may have the combat training, but Tequila is sheer impulse and rage, and that's a lethal cocktail that would probably overwhelm him if the latter pressed his attack.

Lose: James Bond

Pierce Brosnan as 007: James Bond

Bond has saved the world countless times, but he's always gone up against fairly routine opponents and their henchmen. While he is armed to the teeth with the latest MI6 weapons and gadgetry, he relies on them a bit too much to get out of sticky situations. By contrast, Snake prefers OSP (on-site procurement) of weapons and tools, which is a testament to his training.

Bond is capable of holding his own in a scrap, but his philandering high society shoulder-rubbing might leave him disadvantaged against Snake's pure, raw combat training. Snake isn't going to order a martini, shaken or stirred. He's going to go at his mission objectives like a dog by biting down, and never letting go.

Win: Casey Ryback (Under Siege)

Steven Seagal as former Navy SEAL turned expert cook Casey Ryback in Under Siege

Not only is Casey Ryback an expert at hand-to-hand combat and melee weapons, but he's got enough Navy S.E.A.L. training to take down a small army. Though he'd much prefer to whip up some fine food in the nearest kitchen, he'll settle for whooping the worst of the worst in a battle situation.

Ryback's skills are next-to-perfect, and he'd be more than a match for Snake. If the battle came down to a fistfight, Snake would score a few shots, but it's doubtful he'd last long before Ryback snapped his neck like a twig. Plus, Ryback has intimate knowledge of how to MacGyver nearby items to create makeshift bombs and traps, which is a definite advantage.

Lose: The T-800 (The Terminator)

Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator, a reprogrammed cyborg from the future

Though the T-800 infiltrator unit was designed to be almost unstoppable, it is still a machine, and that's something Solid Snake has vast experience with. He's taken down larger killing robots in his time, including several variants of the Metal Gear superweapon. A T-800 should prove to be a walk in the park for him.

Although the Terminator is a cyborg with a hardened combat chassis, Snake has proven that's able to crack the strongest armor around. He's gone toe-to-toe with a cybernetic ninja and emerged victorious, which is also no easy feat. If he was careful, and used distancing to his advantage, he'd definitely stand a chance at taking out SkyNET's iconic killing machine.
