A new fan poster imagines Oscar Isaac as Solid Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie. Hideo Kojima’s classic video game franchise dates to 1987 with the release of Metal Gear, and the series entered the 3-D age in 1998 with the release of Metal Gear Solid. Blending action, stealth, and sci-fi, the series is widely known and beloved for its innovative boss battles and cinematic storytelling.

The Metal Gear Solid movie is a legendary topic of discussion, as fans have clamored for an adaptation for years. Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been attached to the film for some time, and the project finally gained some traction with the casting of Oscar Isaac as the series’ main character, Solid Snake. A stoic special forces operative cloned from history’s greatest soldier, Big Boss, Snake is an expert in infiltration and close-quarters combat, allowing players to undertake tactical stealth missions to stop nuclear-equipped walking tanks using a wide array of weapons, acrobatic moves, and gadgets.

Fans have seen very little of the development for the Metal Gear Solid movie beyond some Metal Gear concept art, but fan creations have been making their way online as people anticipate the film. Digital artist samuel_cheve decided to make a custom poster for the upcoming adaptation that envisions Isaac as the grizzled Solid Snake. Check out the artist's original Instagram post below:

The above image appears to use a poster for the upcoming Dune adaptation as a source for Isaac’s likeness. However, for fans of Metal Gear Solid, there are plenty of visual elements to pick up on that identify this as Solid Snake. From the cigarette dangling from Isaac’s lips to the bandana around his head, as well as the FOXHOUND insignia on his sneaking suit, this is a good example of what a silver screen Solid Snake could look like.

At this point, it remains unclear exactly how Isaac will look as Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid. The character has undergone some notable visual transformations from game to game over the years between his different outfits, hairstyles, and ages, so fans will have to wait and see what visual elements get adapted. If the film offers a straight adaptation of the original game, fans could see the short-haired, bandana-clad Snake from the 1998 classic. However, an amalgam of different Metal Gear sequels could bring in his mullet from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, or even his Lee Van Cleef-inspired mustache from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
