Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake Confirmed For Other Platforms

Since the time of publishing the below article, it's been confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake will be coming not just to PS5, but also Xbox Series X/S and PC. Original story as follows.

The remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater has been revealed as part of Sony's May 2023 PlayStation Showcase. In recent years there have been several rumors surrounding remakes of titles from Hideo Kojima's popular espionage franchise, with both 1998's Metal Gear Solid and 2004's Snake Eater being the two most commonly speculated.

As part of the May 24, 2023, PlayStation Showcase, it's been confirmed that the rumors surrounding the fan-favorite Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater's remake are true. A cinematic trailer revealed the upcoming release with a snake being devoured by an alligator before cutting to Naked Snake emerging from the depths revealing the remake's new name Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Check it out in the video below.

While the confirmation trailer didn't give fans a look at gameplay, the PS5 release should be a step up from the original if the cinematic teaser is anything to go by.

As announced beforehand, the PlayStation Showcase was intended to be focused primarily on Sony's first-party developers. However, this past week, Windows Central editor Jez Corden took to Twitter to independently confirm that the now-confirmed Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake was real, but also that it was coming to both Xbox and PC as well as PlayStation. At the time of writing, it's not yet clear if the game will be a PS5 exclusive, with the trailer simply noting it's coming to PS5 at an unspecified date in the future.

The Sony event also revealed Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, which should provide an easier way for fans to play classic MGS games on modern hardware. Due to launch sometime in Fall 2023, the collection includes the original Metal Gear Solid, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, and the original version of Snake Eater. Again, it's unclear - though likely - that the Collection Vol. 1 will be available outside of PlayStation.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater's remake and Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 are a positive sign for the franchise, which fans feared was dead after creator Hideo Kojima's alleged falling out with publisher Konami. Attempts to continue the franchise without Kojima's creative mind at the helm failed with the zombie title Metal Gear Survive, but Konami may just be going full steam ahead without him with its new Metal Gear Solid releases.
