Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing for its EQE EV, which starts at $74,000 and will be available in multiple trim levels. The EQE is considered the German automaker's answer to calls for a smaller yet elegant version of the EQS sedan, which is the flagship electric model. The EQE is a larger and more expensive EV that blends the manufacturer's luxurious design sense with electric vehicle technology. Both models form part of Mercedes-Benz's electrification efforts, with more releases expected in the next few years.

Mercedes-Benz has made giant strides in the race to offer electric models to customers, following international approval to offer customers Level 3 of autonomy when using its driver assistance system called Drive Pilot. Currently, it's the first automaker to receive this credential. This means that drivers can legally do other things while the system self-drives the Mercedes. Another interesting aspect of Mercedes-Benz's EV roadmap is the EQXX concept car, which once drove for 747 miles on a single charge. That alone is a noteworthy event, considering that many consumers are skeptical about switching to EVs because of the range factor.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the EQE is its latest entry in the EV market, and it comes with a sedan body style. It's also based on the Mercedes-EQ premium-class electric architecture (EVA2). It has a sporty design which, according to the automaker, “exhibits all the characteristic elements of Mercedes-EQ, including aerodynamic one-bow lines and a striking cab-forward design.” Based on EPA estimates, the EQE should offer up to 305 miles of driving range. With a starting price of $74,900, the EQE is expected to raise the bar in the luxury electric car segment. U.S. dealerships should have the EQE by fall.
