Josh Brolin Praises Men in Black 3 Script

On the same day that Columbia Pictures officially confirmed Men in Black 3 would be released in the summer of 2012, actor Josh Brolin, who has long been attached to the project, spoke with MTV Splash Page about his impressions of an early script for the film.

Brolin, who is rumored to play a young version of Tommy Lee Jones' character, Agent K, explains how he wasn't sure about the script at first, but as he learned more about the plot, he thought it was "really good."

"It looks really, really good. I can't tell you the story, obviously, but they pitched me the general story, and I was like, 'Eh, I don't know if that's really my thing, man.' ... But then they got more specific with the story, and I go, 'Yes, that's f---ing great!' This is a character where I feel like I can do some actual acting work within this franchise that everybody knows."

Brolin went on to clarify, however, that the version of the script he read was "something early, early, early" and that "it's very different than what is being written right now." Brolin also neglected to confirm whether he is officially on board for the movie.

Men in Black is one of my "Sneaky Favorites" (copyright on that term pending). I say "sneaky" because I always forget how much I love it until I catch it one night on TV. Men in Black 2, on the other hand, was all sizzle and no steak. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were still a good pair, but the sequel wasn't nearly as smart as its predecessor and it focused too much on big effects and action set pieces.

Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in Men in Black

Considering the general rule of diminishing returns when it comes to movie sequels, you might expect that I'd be disinterested in Men in Black 3, but that's actually not the case. Given the fact that Etan Cohen is writing the script and Josh Brolin, who is one of my "sneaky favorite" actors, has some good things to say about the initial plot, I'm actually pseudo-excited about this film.

What do you think? Is there potential for Men in Black 3 to be good, or will it be bogged down among other big-budget action moves in the summer of 2012?
