The movie served as an origin story of how Carol Danvers became a powerful cosmic hero. The movie also gave a glimpse at the earlier days of the MCU with its fun 90s setting. Filled with interesting characters, fun cameos, and some great humor, this was another stellar entry in the MCU. Here are the most memorable quotes from Captain Marvel.

Does Announcing Your Identity With Branded Clothing, Help With The Covert Part Of The Job?

Captain Marvel gives us one of the best and most unexpected duos in the MCU with the partnership between Carol and a young Nick Fury. Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson have outstanding chemistry together and their banter is reminiscent of a classic buddy cop movie.

While looking to remain low-key, Fury gives Carol a hat with the shield logo on it. Carol rightfully points out that it's probably not a great idea for a secret organization to make brand clothing.

That's Not A Cat. That's A Flerken

Goose the Cat in Captain Marvel

Even with all the cosmic action and superhero fun, the one aspect that pretty much steals the show is a cat named Goose. At first, Goose seems like a pretty ordinary cat who just likes hanging around Carol and Fury, but there is more than meets the eye with the feline.

When the Skrull leader Talos sees Goose, he immediately freaks out and insists it is actually a Flerken, an extremely dangerous alien species. Though it sounds ridiculous, Talos is proven to be absolutely right when Goose unleashes its wrath.

I'm Not Gonna Fight Your War. I'm Gonna End It

Many fans were very excited by the fact that this film would be introducing the Skrulls into the MCU and potentially setting up the Kree-Skrull War storyline from the comics. However, the movie boldly plays with that expectation by giving a twist to the story.

Carol finds out that the war she has been fighting against the Skrull was a lie and that the Skrull are refugees looking for safety. Upon learning the truth, Carol seeks to make things right by bringing the war to an end.

Why Would I Turn Into A Filing Cabinet?

Ben Mendelsohn is another unexpected highlight of the film as Talos. Initially, Talos seemed to be a typical villain, something Mendelsohn plays very well. However, Mendelsohn actually gets to embrace his comedic side as more is revealed about Talos.

Once Carol and Fury decide Talos is an ally, they take an interest in his shapeshifting abilities. Mendelsohn's increasing annoyance at their questions and dry-witted answers are some of the biggest laughs in the movie.

I Have Nothing To Prove To You

Captain Marvel Jude Law Brie Larson

Jude Law is another stellar member of the cast who also gets to play around with different sides of his character Yon-Rogg. At first, he is the caring mentor to Carol then is revealed to be the manipulator who has been holding her back for years.

When they finally face off as enemies, Yon-Rogg challenges her to not use the full extent of her powers and take him on in an equal fight. She simply blasts him away and tells him she is done playing his games.

It's Just A Scratch

As soon as we see Nick Fury with two eyes, the obvious question becomes what will cause him to lose his eye in the end. The movie has a lot of fun teasing the possibilities then delivering a completely unexpected answer.

While snuggling with Goose the Flerken, he gets scratched on the eye. Fury brushes it off as nothing, but the look on Talos' face shows that he knows it is much worse than it seems. It is a hilarious anti-climax to the big question.

For Emergencies Only

Captain Marvel pager

After defeating the Kree and helping to save the Skrull, Carol gets ready to leave Earth. But before she does, she makes a gift for Fury. She modifies his pager so that she can be reached even when she's out in the cosmos.

Carol cautions Fury that the gadget is for emergencies only. Of course, we see when such an emergency arises as this is the pager Fury used to send a desperate call for help before being dusted by Thanos' "snap".

But What Happens When I'm Finally Set Free?

For much of the movie, Carol proves herself to be a very formidable warrior, but as it turns out, that is just a fraction of what she's capable of. Infused with the power of the Tesseract, the Kree recognize the potential of Carol's power but are also afraid of it.

Finally, she fights back against the controls and the barriers they put in place. As she says, she was fighting with one arm tied behind her back, but now she finally shows them what she is really capable of.

We Need To Find More

Carol is Fury's introduction to the world of superheroes and their relationship helps lay the foundation for the rest of the MCU in many ways. He recognizes that there is a bigger world out there and that they need to be prepared.

After Carol leaves Earth, Fury begins a new project. As he tells his new partner Phil Coulson, they need to find more heroes out there. So he begins work on the Avengers Initiative and the rest is history.

Higher, Further, Faster, Baby

Even before she was infused with cosmic powers, Carol was a fearless fighter who never backed down from an obstacle in her way nor allowed limitations to hold her back. Much like many of the other heroes in the MCU, the person Carol Danvers is beneath all the powers is what makes her a hero.

Carol's mantra with her friend Monica Rambeau is "Higher, further, faster" and it serves as the perfect summation of Captain Marvel as a hero. She can do things that even her fellow Avengers aren't capable of doing and she continues to push herself forward.
