Years after Harry and Voldemort's rivalry came to an end with the final installment of the Harry Potter series, fans are still eager to see more. The Wizarding World franchise has introduced other stories surrounding the magical community, such as the recent Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and the upcoming video game Hogwarts Legacy. These separate titles focus on their own rivalries, such as Grindelwald and Dumbledore, but follow similar themes to those established in Harry's story, that destiny is on the side of good. There was no question in Harry Potter that Voldemort was stronger than his student nemesis, but destiny aligned with Harry's goals. So, the Dark Lord never stood a chance. Their rivalry was wholly defined by luck and a good deal of plot armor, all of which is summed up by a couple of good memes.

Good Luck And Bad Luck

There were times when luck seemed to be on Voldemort's side. First, he heard a prophecy about Harry entirely by chance. Then, in Chamber of Secrets, a piece of his soul found its way into Harry's hands.

If Voldemort thought these moments of luck were a sign of his destined success, he quickly learned that he was mistaken. Attacking Harry ended up being his greatest mistake, and Harry finding his first Horcrux would open the door to discovering the others.

Voldemort Running Around Leaving Scars

Having a magical scar was a blessing and a curse for the Boy Who Lived. It could be a nuisance because it was his most recognizable feature, so people still managed to figure out who he was even when he simply wanted to exist under the radar. Even worse, it provided him with a dangerous connection with Voldemort, which was used to cause Harry (Sirius) great harm.

However, the scar provided Dumbledore with yet another clue about what had happened the night the Potters were killed. If it weren't for Harry's souvenir, the mystery of the Horcruxes would have never been solved.

Should Be Smooth Sailing

Snape overhearing Trelawney's premonition was a perfect bit of luck for Voldemort. He already feared the idea that someone could come along and take him down. So, learning entirely by chance who that person was while they were still a baby was highly convenient.

Voldemort had no reason to believe that killing an infant boy would be a problem. However, he had underestimated the power of destiny. Had he been wise like Dumbledore, he would have understood that acting on a prophecy would likely bring it about. Instead, his mistake was the first of many that cost Voldemort's victory in Harry Potter.

Harry Isn't So Easy To Kill

For as much as everyone worried about Harry, he certainly seemed to be near indestructible. From the time he was a year old onward, he escaped death time and time again. This often had nothing to do with his own skill. Instead, the people that loved him, and a little old-fashioned Harry Potter plot armor, protected him.

This meant that even though Voldemort was the most powerful Dark wizard in history, he still could never hurt Harry for one reason or another. First, it was his mother's blood, then it was the connection of their wands, then his ability to love, followed by his own sacrifice combined with his mother's blood yet again. Finally, Harry was saved by the loyalty of the Elder wand. Voldemort just couldn't catch a break.

Harry Isn't Even All That Talented

Part of what made Harry so amazing to the Wizarding World is that he first defeated Lord Voldemort when he was only a year old. Then, when he was 11, Harry won against Voldemort again, all without ever casting a single spell.

Of course, this continued again and again over the years until Harry finally defeated the Dark wizard with nothing but his favorite spell, Expelliarmus. Harry himself knew that his victory was just good luck, but Dumbledore understood it to be the result of fate, the most delicate branch of magic.

It All Comes Down To A Mother's Love

The Harry Potter series sees several repeated themes throughout multiple storylines. Of course, destiny is a prevalent concept, but it is also closely related to another: motherly love. From his own mother to the loving protection of others, Harry benefited from this unique magic again and again.

The loving sacrifice of his mother resulted in mysterious protection that was a chance result of Lily not having her wand. Molly taught Harry what it meant to be a part of a family and gave him something worth protecting. Even motherly love within the Malfoy family in Harry Potter contributed to keeping Harry alive.

Voldemort Is Such A Nice Guy

Every good book series needs a strong formula, and Harry Potter is no different. Year after year, audiences could count on the fact that Harry would start that installment with an intriguing mystery and end it facing off with either Voldemort or his supporters.

Of course, as a realistic plot, it seems a little strange that Voldemort would only attack around the same time every year. If he weren't so predictable, destiny might have been more on his side. Thank goodness for Harry, and his academic success, that it wasn't.

Wish Denied

As the years went on, audiences could observe the growth of Voldemort's frustration. He knew there should be no reason that he could not defeat a child in battle. But, time and time again, Harry eluded him.

Of course, this desperation only continued to ensure that destiny was not on his side. It drove him to seek out the Elder Wand, which only further contributed to Harry's unexplainable advantage over the powerful wizard.

Got To Love Plot Armor

On a practical level, Harry's success can be explained at every step by Voldemort's hubris. The Dark Lord never understood that simply being great wasn't enough, and since Dumbledore had had to learn this lesson the hard way, he could recognize where Voldemort would folly.

So, Dumbledore knew that a great deal of their success would come from sitting back and allowing Voldemort to destroy himself. By going to such lengths to prevent his death, he ensured it, and all Dumbledore had to do was make sure that the Harry Potter protagonist was always in the right place at the right time.

Just A Minor Inconvenience

The biggest revelation of the Harry Potter series is that Harry would have to sacrifice himself to destroy the bit of Voldemort's soul inside him. His slow walk to the forest, accompanied by the shadows of his lost loved ones, was an impactful climax. But, of course, it wasn't the end of Harry Potter.

Once again, destiny was on Harry's side, and the fact that Voldemort had used Harry's blood to create a new body bound the boy to life while his enemy survived. Add on the allegiance of the Deathly Hallows, and Harry truly was the Master of Death in the end. So Voldemort really never stood a chance.
