The Gotham Knights game is ready to be released on October 21st, and fans are ready to see Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood take on Gotham City without the Dark Knight by their side. Yet, while it will be an incredible experience to play as those heroes, it is disappointing that Batman won't be involved.

After all, the Dynamic Duo have been a distinct pair for nearly a century. While each individual Batman and Robin has come and gone, the two of them are a team that fans have always loved. It's why fans have been making so many memes about Batman and Robin that sum up their relationship incredibly well.

Batman Knows Robin's Weaknesses

Since Batman and Robin are often in sync, it can be easy to forget that Batman is often incredibly experienced, while each iteration of Robin has only been in the field for a year or two. While every version of Robin is skilled, Batman is always a step ahead.

That fact can most easily be seen whenever the Red Hood faces off against Batman. Despite being Batman's Robin once upon a time, Red Hood often fails to actually take down the hero. If he does, it typically only happens because Batman refuses to harm the boy who was once his sidekick.

Always Looking For Another Orphan

It's somewhat ridiculous that each time Batman is abandoned by a Robin or loses one, he's always looking for the next orphan. After Dick Grayson left, it was Jason Todd. After Jason Todd, it was the soon-to-be-orphaned Tim Drake. After Tim, it was Damian Wayne, freshly abandoned by his mother.

With only Tim Drake as an exception, Batman always manages to find teenagers or children without a guiding hand, and he tends to bring them into combat with him. Though he does his best to keep them safe, the very concept of a superhero taking an orphaned child into Gotham City at night is harrowing.

Countless Robins

While Bruce Wayne has set down the cowl once or twice, he is almost always Batman, while the revolving door of Robins spins. While Robin has appeared in the movies only as Dick Grayson, many others have worn the bright green, red, and yellow that mark Batman's sidekicks.

With that in mind, it can be hard to identify one common cause between the many Robins in the DC universe. Still, the fact that they all proudly carried the mantle has certainly served to make them memorable. Nearly every sidekick to the great detective wore the name Robin.

No Robin Is Truly Wanted

As much as Batman desperately needs a Robin, as Tim Drake proved after the death of Jason Todd, Batman isn't always interested in seeking out a new sidekick. Some just happen to unexpectedly fall into his lap, like Tim and Damian Wayne both managed to.

Damian, especially, wasn't wanted by Batman. Though the Dark Knight accepted him, a bloodthirsty eight-year-old serial killer was hardly Robin material to him, even if he thought he could help the boy. So Jason wasn't exactly wrong to say that Damian's father really didn't want him.

Different Styles

At a glance, the most noticeable difference between Batman and Robin is their color scheme. While Batman dresses in grey and black with the occasional blue cape, Robin is always in bright colors. The colors make him stand out in the field even at night.

It's somewhat dangerous, given that Batman dresses in black to ensure stealth and safety, but it also ensures that Robin is physically and emotionally the bright light in Batman's life. He typically symbolizes hope, and Robin's many superhero costumes perfectly exemplify that.

The Powerless Duo

One notable detail about Batman and Robin is that the two of them don't have powers. While there are many superpowered teenagers in comics, Batman always chooses kids who don't have powers to fall back on. It may make the two less versatile, but there's a good reason for it.

After all, Batman initially took in Dick Grayson as a ward to help guide him and make him stronger so that he wouldn't go down the same path. He wouldn't have needed to do the same for Beast Boy or Aqualad, who were already skilled from their powers alone. Besides, Batman and Robin starting off on equal footing have certainly made them have a better relationship without one having too much of a literal power differential.

Took Time To Get It Right

While Dick Grayson was undoubtedly the first Robin, he wasn't the first Robin that Batman actually liked and appreciated. In fact, Batman rarely showed his soft side to Dick, only ever actually embracing the man when he had already left the Batcave to become Nightwing.

After all, Dick was working to be the bright and lighthearted sidekick to a gloomy and brooding hero, which isn't always easy. Batman never truly appreciated his contributions and repeatedly ignored his input. It's why Dick left, and it's why they have a much better relationship as equals than they ever did as partners.

Batman's Double Standards

Batman tends to expect better from his sidekicks than he does from himself. Where he can brutally harm criminals, he usually steps in to prevent Robins (especially Damian) from doing the same. While it may initially seem hypocritical, there's a good reason for it.

After all, it's partly because he wants each Robin to be better than he is. If he encouraged them all to launch themselves at criminals the way he did in his first year as Batman, they would be sadistic killers prowling the streets and terrifying the citizens of Gotham. Instead, he expects better, and it's why most Robins are warmer than Bruce is.

Sometimes Robins Surpass Batman

While Batman certainly hoped to train Robin to be better than him, it is always surprising when a Robin actually manages to defeat the world's greatest detective. Tim Drake, more than any other Robin, has actually proved his worth as a brilliant detective and hero.

While only comic fans know it, Tim Drake is brilliant in many regards. Excellent at stealth, disguise, and investigations, he's proven to be an even better detective than Bruce. His skills were how he identified that Bruce Wayne was Batman in the first place. Now an expert who can create his own tools, he's a proven genius and an excellent fighter.

Robin Is The Distraction

While the bright colors of Robin's suit certainly make him a symbol of hope and light in gloomy Gotham City, it's also an incredibly dangerous costume for a child facing off against criminals in a dimly lit street. While Batman's suit helps him hide, Robin's makes him the center of attention.

Robin certainly is a distraction for Batman, and it's hard to argue otherwise. With Robins typically sharing clever quips and drawing eyes during fights, it leaves room for Batman to work on his own stealth investigations and fights. It's a good arrangement, though it typically leads to Robin drawing more fire than Batman does.
