Slytherin is one of the most famous and infamous Hogwarts houses, and those who are sorted into it are often maligned by others but still take a lot of pride in being a member of Salazar Slytherin's noble house.

This house of green and silver is appropriately accustomed to being seen as second best, but if you asked any sensible Slytherin, they'd say they deserve the gold. With that in mind, here are 10 Slytherin memes that only real Slytherins would understand.

Constant Clowning

Any true Slytherin will notice a few specific running themes when it comes to their memes. Obviously the most popular subject for most Slyther memes is the fact that it's not just their fellow Hogwarts students who shun and mistreat them, it's also the headmaster himself, Albus Dumbledore.

It's hard to know if Albus favored Gryffindor or he just stanned Harry Potter so hard that he'd never let any other house win the house cup, but that was some cruel and unusual punishment.

The Hurt Never Fades

Allegedly Slytherin had won the house cup before, even during Dumbledore's reign as headmaster. But considering his behavior towards house Slytherin (with the notable exception of his kindness towards Draco when he went from Slytherin head boy to Death Eater assassin), it's hard to imagine it.

And not that the golden trio's bravery didn't deserve props, but there is something to be said about teaching kids the horrible life lesson that a year of hard work can be outshined by one heroic act by a famous person.

Door To Door Slithering

Much like the majestic snake species itself, Slytherin is a house that gets an unnecessarily bad rap because they seem scary, even if they're pretty cool.

But unfortunately for them, using snakes as their world ambassador to earn the favor and fortune of people around them probably isn't a very effective tool for propaganda or recruitment.

Goth Squad

Although Slytherins do seem to have a darker temperament than most, it's actually hard to imagine them as true Goth kids.

However, this meme seems incredibly appropriate in the sense that real Slythers can probably afford to go for the super luxurious Goth look instead of having to lower themselves to Hot Topic standards.

The Lost Malfoy

Kim Kardashian deserves credit for one thing at least, she's not afraid to go outside of the box when it comes to styling choices. Her Malfoy hair is now infamous, but honestly, she really does fit into the Slytherin exceptionally well.

She's from a super rich family, and she's cunning and ruthless as hell. If she went to Hogwarts, it would certainly be a life in Slytherin for her.

Interspecies Affection

Well, if you can't haz cheezeburger, then at least you can haz parseltongue?

It's pretty weird to see a cat and a snake getting this cozy, but perhaps this tiny tabby really can communicate with snakes in a way that most cats can't. Parseltongue is an extraordinarily unusual magical talent to have, but it does exist, so perhaps this kitten is just blessed with a natural gift of snake gab.

A Stolen Crown

The Slytherin kids who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter/Albus Dumbledore years will probably still be ranting about how much they were robbed of the Hogwarts house cup to their children, or maybe even their children's children.

But frankly, no matter how long they hold that grudge, it's a pretty fair grudge to hold. They earned it fair and square, and had a local celeb snatch the glory from them at the last moment.

The Drama

If one thing can be said for Severus Snape, he certainly had the Slytherin style down pat.

The Yule Ball was epic enough in it's own right, but it would have been far cooler to see a bunch of Slythers flapping their black capes about with dramatic flourishes. Slytherin gets a bad rap, but they definitely know how to represent iconic witch and wizard style better than any house.

An Unwanted Home

It must be a bummer to be in Slytherin and realize that the majority of kids who show up at Hogwarts are desperately hoping that they won't wind up in their house.

However if the typical Slytherin personality type is any indication, it seems more likely that Slythers look at the dislike of their house as a negative aspect of others instead of a negative aspect of themselves.

No Love Lost

Not for nothing, but Hermione is such a savage that she seems like she might belong in Slytherin instead of Gryffindor. Realistically speaking, Hermione Granger would have been a superstar in literally any house, but Hermione is so clever, cunning, and ruthless that it seems like her destiny may have been in Slytherin had she not begged the Sorting Hat to put her in Gryffindor.

But regardless of where she landed, it seems likely that there still wouldn't have been any love lost between her and Draco Malfoy.
