The Meg 2: The Trench already spoiled the movie's most shocking kill. Jaws not only kicked off the killer shark movie genre, but it also set a bar that was impossible to top. Even solidly made contenders like Deep Blue Sea, 47 Meters Down or even Jaws 2 pale in comparison to Spielberg's groundbreaking blockbuster. The same can be said for 2018's The Meg, based on the novel of the same name. Wisely, this Jason Statham vehicle opted to largely forego scares in favor of humor and setpieces though.
The Meg had its share of flaws, but its excellent marketing campaign and mix of action and laughs made it a surprise success. The Meg 2's trailer sees Statham return as Jonas Taylor, who not only has to face even larger Megs that emerge from the trench but other threats such as a giant squid. The trailer alone makes it clear the Ben Wheatley-helmed sequel will have tongue planted firmly in cheek, and in addition to some impressive money shots, it spoils a particularly hilarious kill.
Skyler Samuels' Meg 2 Death Could Have Been A Great Jump Scare
Scream Queens' Skyler Samuels plays a member of Jonas' submarine crew in The Meg 2, but the follow-up's preview makes it very clear she won't have a major role. The Meg 2's trailer shows her character tapping on the "Meg Proof" glass of an underwater facility while talking on her phone. Unfortunately for her, a Megalodon circling outside decides to test just how resilient the glass is, breaking through and snapping Samuels' character up in one bite.
It's the comedy highlight of The Meg 2 preview, and no doubt got people talking about the sequel. That said, showing this moment also completely spoils what would have been a great jump scare in theaters. Trailers for major blockbusters always have a tricky balance between showing off the most impressive moments and trying not to spoil key surprises. Again, Samuels' character probably isn't a huge part of The Meg 2's plot, but it would have been nice for audiences to experience this nicely timed jolt while watching the film for the first time.

Of course, Samuels' demise also calls back to another killer shark favorite. 1999's Deep Blue Sea saw a group of people trapped in an underwater facility by hyper-intelligent sharks, with the survivors being led by Samuel L. Jackson's grizzled businessman. Well, that's until the midway point of Deep Blue Sea, where his character is giving an impassioned speech - only to be snatched and eaten by a huge shark. Samuel's Meg 2 death is a hilarious nod to this infamous scene, but again, it might have worked better if audiences could have walked into the sequel unspoiled for this moment.
