The developers of The Medium and Observer: System Redux have revealed the two games share the same location, even though they're separated by decades of time. Observer and The Medium are developed by Polish video game studio Bloober Team, and both are set in Poland.

Set in 2084, Observer is a first-person cyberpunk thriller (as is its current-gen revamp, Observer: System Redux). The story follows detective Daniel Lazarski as he arrives at his son's apartment building, only to find a headless body in his room. The apartment is locked down, and Lazarski has to investigate the building in search of clues. The Medium is a third-person psychological horror game set in the late 1990s. It follows Marianne, a psychic investigating the abandoned Hotel Niwa in search of answers about her past. The two games are set in Krakow but otherwise don't have much in common.

It turns out there is a connection between Observer and The Medium, though fans might not realize it at first glance. According to a video released on the official Bloober Team YouTube channel, the two games share a location. Marianne's apartment home, seen at the start of The Medium, is the same building where Observer takes place, though they're separated by almost a century. This connection was also cemented in the review guide sent to Screen Rant for The Medium.

How The Medium & Observer: System Redux Are Connected

The apartment building is based on a real place in Matejko Square in Krakow, which is near the Grunwald Monument. It bears mentioning that the apartment doesn't have much of a role in The Mediumas Marianne is quickly called to the Hotel Niwa, where the bulk of the game is set. The apartment plays a much bigger part in Observer, as it's where the game takes place.

Although this isn't explicit confirmation the games take place in the same fictional universe, their different genres shouldn't affect the chances of Observer and The Medium happening in the same world. It's possible the people with supernatural gifts in The Medium died before 2084 or managed to keep their abilities a secret. It's likely the developers just wanted to use a building they liked and had easy access to, rather than purposely planning to create a Bloober Team "cinematic universe." Still, the connection is a nice Easter egg for fans of the studio, especially those who recently returned to Observer's world in Observer: System Redux.
