Predicting The MCU's Young Avengers Lineup

The heroes who could be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's eventual Young Avengers lineup are likely to be introduced over the next year. With Phase 3 now complete, Marvel Studios is starting to usher in the next wave of superhero properties. Characters like Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange will receive bigger roles now and could be the leaders of the next Avengers team. After several years of just having one super-team though, the next phase of the MCU may feature multiple different teams. One of them may very well be the Young Avengers.

Marvel Studios has yet to announce any official plans to bring the Young Avengers together, but the studio's intention to do so appears clear. Kevin Feige previously confirmed that Marvel is planting seeds for the Young Avengers team. The group first formed in the comics following the Avengers disbanding, which is possibly the current situation the MCU is in. The events of Avengers: Endgame saw some original Avengers die or go in new directions, and there was no clear set up for another version of the team to emerge. Without the Avengers around, the MCU could see a young group of heroes rise up to fill that void. When this happened in the comics, the original lineup was formed by Iron Lad, a younger version of Kang from the future.

Based on the ways the MCU is setting up the Young Avengers throughout Phase 4, it is unclear if Kang will be tied to the origins of the team. After all, Marvel Studios has proven on multiple occasions that they can borrow elements from the comics but fit them to the story they are telling. Not only is it then possible that young Kang won't form the team, but fans of the Young Avengers in the comics may need to be prepared for the MCU to alter the lineup as well. With that in mind, here are the handful of heroes who could be part of the squad.

Kate Bishop

If Marvel Studios assembles the Young Avengers, it would appear that Kate Bishop will be part of this team. The character was introduced in the first issue of Young Avengers by Allan Heinberg, although she wasn't made an official member of the team until a few issues later. But, Marvel Studios is in the process of giving Kate a big future in the MCU. She will be a co-star in Hawkeye opposite Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton and will be trained by the sharpshooter to become the new Hawkeye. As a skilled fighter in her own right, Kate is a formidable member of the Young Avengers. With Marvel hoping to get a rising star like Hailee Steinfeld to play the part, there's even a chance the MCU's Kate Bishop could be the leader of the team, which would be a nice step up for the next Hawkeye.

Wiccan

Wiccan is one original member of the Young Avengers in the comics who is likely to find a way onto the MCU's roster. Known as William "Billy" Kaplan, the magical hero was originally known as Asgardian when he started playing hero. He eventually gained the name of Wiccan and learned that he is tied to the Scarlet Witch and Vision. Wiccan is the reincarnated version of Billy Maximoff and inherited his magic powers from his mother. His place on the MCU's Young Avengers roster wouldn't just be comic accurate, but it would also provide the team with a full-time mage.

Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange have both served time with the Avengers in the MCU, but Wiccan playing a prominent part in the Young Avengers could help differentiate the power set from the main Avengers lineups. There are rumors that he will be part of WandaVision's story, even though no one has officially been cast to fill the part. If Wiccan is about to make his MCU debut, then his spot among a Young Avengers lineup looks even more secure.

Speed

Speed is also possibly going to make his MCU debut in the near future, making him a prime candidate to be part of the first Young Avengers team. Thomas Shepherd was not an original member of the Young Avengers in the comics, but he did join them early on. Marvel Studios might be looking to change that approach, as he is also rumored to be part of WandaVision. In the comics, Thomas is another reincarnated child of Scarlet Witch, as well as the twin brother of Billy. Although they aren't aware of this connection at first, two brothers being on the same super team is something the MCU hasn't done yet. He would also finally give an Avengers roster a proper speedster following the swift death of Quicksilver, Thomas' uncle, in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Hulkling

It also appears that Marvel Studios is gearing up for Hulkling to be introduced and likely find a spot on the Young Avengers. The half-Kree/half-Skrull is the son of Mar-Vell in the comics and has a vast array of abilities. He is one of the original members of the Young Avengers too, making him an obvious choice to do the same in the MCU. Instead of just hoping that Hulkling could one day find his way to the screen though, it now looks like Marvel Studios may give him his debut very soon. Recent reports point to Marvel looking to cast someone to play Hulkling in WandaVision. If he does appear in the MCU by the end of 2020, him joining a future Young Avengers lineup is a no-brainer. Plus, with Marvel Studios looking to further diversify their heroes, Hulkling being paired with Wiccan could allow for their romantic relationship in the comics to blossom on screen as well.

Cassie Lang

A later addition to the Young Avengers in the comics, the MCU has slowly been setting up Cassie Lang to become a superhero like her father. She mentions in Ant-Man and the Wasp that she wanted to be Scott Lang's partner in fighting crime, but she was undeniably too young to begin this lifestyle. However, the five-year time jump in Avengers: Endgame, Cassie is now officially 14 years old and much closer to being able to suit up. Many even thought that she was going to do just that in Endgame. As a descendant of a current hero, she could easily follow suit and join the Young Avengers in the near future. But, if the MCU follows the comics at all, that may only come after the death of her father.

Ms Marvel

If Marvel Studios is building towards the Young Avengers as quickly as it appears, then they could also be planning for Ms. Marvel to join the team. Kamala Khan is better associated with the young Champions superhero team, but the MCU may give her a new group to interact with at first. Kamala will star in her own Disney+ series, so Ms. Marvel will give fans plenty of time to get to know the Inhuman before potentially joining the Young Avengers. Although her growth abilities may be a bit redundant of Cassie Lang's own powers, the multiple ways she can morph will allow for the similarities to not be so straight-forward.

Miss America

America Chavez punches through dimensions in Marvel Comics

A more recent member of the Young Avengers in the comics, America Chavez aka Miss America could be part of the initial lineup in the MCU. Marvel is reportedly casting a teenager for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that is believed to be Chavez. This early introduction could prove vital to the Phase 4 film's story, but she would also greatly expand the reach of the team. They've dealt with young Kang and Loki from an alternate reality in the comics, so America Chavez being part of the Young Avengers could allow them to save more realities than just the main one in the MCU if need be.
