With Moon Knight coming to an end, the focus will shift to what's next with the MCU shows set to release on Disney+. While Marvel Studios has stayed true to the "cinematic" aspect of the franchise with a continued effort to expand its list of films, which is nearing the 30 mark, there's been a clear priority in building the TV slate of programming. Moon Knight marked the sixth series set in the MCU and, subsequently, Phase 4, which has been a gamechanger for franchise storytelling.

Sharing the stories of new and lesser-known heroes has been a major aspect of Disney+'s MCU slate, with Moon Knight being a prime example. Oscar Isaac's portrayal of Marc Spector/Steven Grant brought a new level of emotion to the franchise by presenting traumatized figure who serves as an unorthodox superhero. The MCU will continue to feature the return of familiar faces while following the Moon Knight approach of introducing franchise newcomers through characters like Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Werewolf by Night.

Though Marvel still has non-MCU plans, such as the X-Men '97 animated reboot, the bulk of upcoming projects will reside in the core franchise. Moon Knight was the first MCU series to debut in 2022, but it won't be the last. In fact, Disney+ has an impressive list of MCU shows to come after Moon Knight to come in Phase 4 and beyond.

Ms. Marvel - June 8, 2022

Ms. Marvel Poster

After debuting the darkest MCU series thus far with Moon Knight, Disney+ will shift the tone with Ms. Marvel, the first streamer title in the franchise to be rated TV-PG. The seventh MCU series for Disney+ will mark another first by introducing its first Muslim superhero in Kamala Khan, the titular character, played by newcomer Iman Vellani. The actress will play Kamala, a Pakistani-American high-schooler and avid fan of Captain Marvel, who coincidentally gains cosmic energy superpowers of her own. The show from Bisha K. Ali will last six episodes and also stars names like Aramis Knight, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, and Matt Lintz. Though Ms. Marvel will serve as Kamala Khan's MCU debut, the young hero already has another appearance set up since she will star alongside Carol Danvers in The Marvels, now set to premiere in July 2023.

She-Hulk - Mid To Late 2022

Aside from Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk is the only other traditional series believed to release by the end of 2022. Based on scheduling, the Disney+ series from Jessica Gao is set to introduce Bruce Banner's cousin, Jennifer Walters, as the central focus. Walters, played by Tatiana Maslany, who lives with a similar condition as Bruce that turns her into She-Hulk, also doubles as a lawyer specializing in superhumans cases. Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as the veteran Avenger with a cast that also includes Tim Roth as Abomination and Jameela Jamil as Titania, the show's antagonist. Expected to air in the second half of 2022, She-Hulk will consist of 10 total episodes.

I Am Groot - Mid To Late 2022

Another series expected to debut by the end of 2022 is I Am Groot, a series of animated shorts focused on the beloved Baby Groot featured heavily in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The Disney+ title will document the adventures of young Groot and Rocket as they encounter new and familiar characters. So far, it's unknown how many shorts will make up I Am Groot season 1 and how long each episode will be.

Marvel's What If...? season 1 debuted on Disney+ with nine mind-bending animated episodes from August to October 2021. The series will return for another nine-episode season by the end of 2022, as confirmed by series creator A. C. Bradley. Season 1 followed specific MCU events play out differently across different universes following the introduction of the multiverse in Loki. Jeffrey Wright's Watcher narrated the series and will continue to do so in Marvel's What If...? season 2 as the show follows the Guardians of the Multiverse in a set of new "what if" scenarios.

Werewolf By Night Halloween Special - October 2022

Blended image of Gael Garcia Bernal and Werewolf by Night

To celebrate the spooky season, Marvel Studios and Disney+ are planning to debut a Halloween special sometime in October 2022 featuring Werewolf by Night. Though not many details have been confirmed, Gael García Bernal was cast as the werewolf lead, who is also known as Jack Russell and Jake Gomez in the comics. This adaptation will presumably follow Jack/Jake as he vows to protect his Arizona town after becoming the Werewolf by Night. Laura Donnelly has been cast opposite Bernal as the female lead in a special that seemingly fits in with the MCU's soon-to-be debut of vampires and other creatures of the mystical variety.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special - December 2022

Coming off of the heels of a Halloween special, Disney+ will celebrate the season by gifting subscribers with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The special, which will debut in December, will introduce a special new MCU character and bring together the core group of Guardians–Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), Draxx (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Nebula (Karen Gillan)–on a holiday-centric adventure. James Gunn created The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special after directing all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The holiday special will also help set up Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, set to release in May 2023.

Secret Invasion - 2023

Samuel L Jackson and Martin Freeman in Secret Invasion

Another MCU title on the horizon at Disney+ is Secret Invasion, the six-episode limited series likely to debut in 2023. Starring Samuel L. Jackson as he reprises his role as Nick Fury, Secret Invasion will focus on Skrulls breaching Earth. Fellow MCU vets Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, Ben Mendelsohn, and Martin Freeman will return as Maria Hill, Rhodey, Talos, and Everett K. Ross, respectively. Newcomers include Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, and Kingsley Ben-Adir; however, their roles are currently being kept under wraps. That said, Secret Invasion is based on the alien invasion storyline of the same name from the comics.

Echo - 2023

Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez Echo in Hawkeye

Hawkeye will officially get a spinoff series on Disney+ with Echo, a series starring Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez. The character was revealed to be the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia before learning of Wilson Fisk's (Vincent D'Onofrio) involvement in the death of her father. Fisk, aka Kingpin, acted like an adoptive uncle, but Maya was last seen firing a shot in his direction in the Hawkeye finale. Leaks from Echo have revealed the possibility of Kingpin's return alongside Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) following his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The series based on the deaf Marvel character began filming in April 2022 and has a projected release of 2023.

Loki Season 2 - 2023

Loki will return for Season 2

While most Disney+ series within the MCU have been limited to one season, Loki broke the mold with a confirmed season 2. Loki season 2 will consist of six episodes, following Tom Hiddleston's Loki after the multiverse was unleashed following the death of He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) at the hands of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). Chaos has surely ensued considering the TVA's inability to prune any alternate universe that may have risen, but as the MCU has made clear, Loki thrives in chaotic situations. Di Martino, Majors, Owen Wilson, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw are all expected to return. For now, Loki season 2 is expected in the second half of  2023, following the release of Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania.

Ironheart - TBA

A split image depicts Ironheart in Marvel comics and Dominique Thorne, the actress who will play her in the MCU

Following the debut of Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the character will return to star in Disney+'s Ironheart. It's unclear what exactly the series will entail, but Riri Williams/Ironheart from the comics is a young MIT student who catches the attention of Tony Stark after developing an armored suit similar to those used by Iron Man. Since Tony isn't around in the MCU, Riri's origin will seemingly lean more into Black Panther. It's important to note that Black Panther's Ryan Coogler is also a co-creator of Ironheart, which could debut by the end of 2023.

Armor Wars - TBA

Marvel is bringing back War Machines Original Role In The MCU

After appearing in Secret Invasion, James "Rhodey" Rhodes' next Disney+ project will be Armor Wars, based on the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name. Don Cheadle will reprise his role of Rhodey/War Machine in a tale focused on the fallout after dangerous individuals get their hands on Tony Stark's tech. Though Iron Man's death has been felt in previous MCU movies and series, Armor Wars will have the opportunity to look at new repercussions for the immense loss. Filming is expected to commence in late 2022, and the projected release date is currently unknown, though late 2023 could make sense.

Wakanda/Okoye Spinoff - TBA

Ironheart isn't the only Disney+ MCU series Ryan Coogler is helping develop. Following the Black Panther sequel, Marvel will keep Wakanda in the spotlight with a spinoff series reportedly set to focus on Danai Gurira's Okoye and the Dora Milaje. Rather than a sequel series, the title is rumored to detail Okoye's origins before she became the leader of the Dora Milaje. If this spinoff succeeds, it wouldn't be surprising to see Marvel Studios welcome other projects centered on other aspects of Wakanda. As for a release date, 2024 would probably be the earliest.

Agatha: House of Harkness - TBA

Following the success of WandaVision, fan-favorite Agatha Harkness has been greenlit to star in a spinoff series at Disney+. After signing a multi-project deal with Marvel Studios, Kathryn Hahn agreed to reprise her role as the villainous witch. Agatha: House of Harkness will be overseen by Jac Schaeffer, who created WandaVision, and the title is said to be a dark comedy. Though Hahn was a scene-stealer while pretending to be Agnes, there are still many unanswered questions surrounding Agatha's presence in the MCU and her link to Scarlet Witch. There isn't a projected release date for Agatha: House of Harkness, but 2024 could be plausible.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year - TBA

Peter Parker's future in the MCU is still unclear, but the MCU will continue Spider-Man's presence with the planned animated Disney+ series titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year. The show will honor the animation style of past comics while documenting Peter's Spider-Man origins, which were largely absent when the character debuted in Phase 3. By following the teen's freshman year of high school, the series can reveal Peter's struggles when he first gained abilities as the famed web-slinger. Progress on the series hasn't been announced, so a release date is unknown.

Marvel Zombies - TBA

Alongside the Spider-Man: Freshman Year announcement, another animated project was unveiled in the form of Marvel Zombies. The idea stems from the zombie presence in Marvel's What If...? episode 5 and will show known MCU heroes coming face-to-face with the undead. Marvel's What If...? director Bryan Andrews will return to direct, while Zeb Wells will serve as the show's lead writer. Like Freshman Year, a release date is currently unknown.

Daredevil Reboot - TBA

daredevil

Despite many feeling like Daredevil season 4 was inevitable, Netflix decided to cancel the series after the third season before Netflix's Marvel slate ended altogether in 2019. Since then, Disney+ gained the rights to the Netflix series, and two characters have made their move to the MCU, including Matt Murdock/Daredevil through Spider-Man: No Way Home. Considering Daredevil's reception and the excitement following the character's incorporation into the MCU, a reboot seems likely. Though there haven't been official confirmations from Marvel Studios reported, rumors point to a potential Daredevil reboot in the works, which can open the door for move crossovers.

Nova Project - TBA

Richard Rider as Nova

In March 2022, it was reported that a project centered on Nova, aka Richard Rider, was in development with Marvel Studios and Disney+. Nova, a member of the intergalactic Nova Corps., is one of the more well-known characters that has yet to make his MCU debut. That will change if the rumored project comes to fruition from writer Sabir Pirzada. While many assume the Nove-centric project will be a TV series, there's a chance it could also be turned into a movie.

Untitled Destin Daniel Cretton - TBA

Destin Daniel Cretton

Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, who served as the director and co-writer of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsis set to return to the MCU after signing a multi-year deal with Marvel Studios. Among the projects in development is an untitled comedy series set in the MCU. However, details surrounding the series or any characters involved have not been announced just yet. Granted, fans should become familiar with Cretton's name as he's expected to be linked to several MCU titles in the coming years.

According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, there are even more planned for the next decade. While the TV side of the MCU will continue to expand on Disney+, the movies are still the foundation as the series continue to bridge the gaps or set up major cinematic events.
