MCU vs Star Wars Debated By Mark Ruffalo & Pedro Pascal

Mark Ruffalo and Pedro Pascal got into a hilarious Twitter battle about whether characters from the MCU or Star Wars would win in a fight. Both massively successful franchises are owned by Disney. The sprawling MCU is now in Phase Four and has a full slate of movies for the next few years. Star Wars, on the other hand, began with the legendary 1977 film. The franchise has since transformed into one of the most recognizable series in popular culture.

Both the MCU and Star Wars have their fair share of powerful characters. In Star Wars, even characters who don't use the Force, like Pascal's Din Djarin (aka the Mandalorian), can be intimidating to opponents in battle due to the variety of blasters, guns, and other weapons available. In the MCU, all the superheroes and villains have different powers, but Ruffalo's Hulk is one of the strongest characters in the films. Hulk has taken down a Chitauri Leviathan with a single blow, injured a fully powered Surtur (Clancy Brown), and faced down Hela's (Cate Blanchett) wolf, Fenris.

Ruffalo drives this point home during a Twitter battle with The Mandalorian's Pascal. The Twitter war began when a fan asked stars from both the MCU and Star Wars to weigh in on which franchise would win in a fight. Ruffalo admits that Star Wars has characters like Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, an extremely powerful Jedi, and John Boyega's Finn, a Force-sensitive ex-stormtrooper, but the MCU has the Hulk. Pascal replies by tweeting, "Pew pew to RRRRAAAAHRRRRR," which Ruffalo then responds to with a GIF of a subdued Hulk. You can catch this hilarious Twitter exchange below:

This isn't the first time fans have imagined a Star Wars/Marvel battle. In fact, there's been quite a bit of fan art that shows hypothetical battles between iconic characters from both franchises. Pascal seems to be making the case that the variety of blasters and other weapons in Star Wars is superior to the brute strength of the Hulk. It's difficult to assess how a blaster would affect the Hulk, but given his ability to shrug off standard bullets, the blaster would have to be pretty strong to slow him down. Of course, adding in the Force might tip things back in Star Wars' favor; it would be interesting to see if Force stasis could hold back a rampaging Hulk or Mjolnir-wielding Thor.

Unfortunately, Star Wars and MCU characters will likely never meet on the big screen, so fans might need to settle for talent crossover. To that end, there has been some franchise overlap. Marvel president Kevin Feige will reportedly produce a Star Wars film and Lucasfilm has recruited director Taika Waititi for a future Star Wars movie as well. Waititi has not only directed an episode of The Mandalorian but is famed for reviving the Thor franchise with Thor: Ragnarok. Recent reports also suggest Oscar Isaac, who portrayed Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, has been cast in the MCU as Moon Knight. Disney might not give us a Star Wars/MCU showdown, but seeing directors and actors move between the two franchises makes it a little easier to imagine.
