Marisa Tomei teases what fans can expect from Aunt May in the MCU's upcoming Spider-Man 3. Tomei has been a part of the MCU since 2016's Captain America: Civil Warwhere she first played Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) aunt and guardian. Since then, Tomei has appeared in four MCU films so far (as she did have a brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame) and is expected to return for the forthcoming Spider-Man 3. Specific plot details about the MCU's Spider-Man 3 are being kept under wraps, but it's expected that it will pick up in the aftermath of last summer's Spider-Man: Far From HomeThat movie ended with Peter's secret identity being revealed to the world when he was framed for the death of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal).

For a brief period of time last year, Spider-Man's MCU future appeared to be in danger when the deal between Marvel and Sony (which permits Spidey to appear in the franchise) fell apart. Luckily, however, a new resolution was met, and Spider-Man is now set to appear in at least two more MCU films. As of right now, Spider-Man 3 will be his last solo movie, and then he'll appear in one additional MCU flick. Sony's chairman Tom Rothman hopes to continue the deal past those films, however, so there's a chance Spider-Man could continue to stick around.

Fans are so eager for new details surrounding the MCU's Spider-Man 3, and now Tomei has a little something to help tide fans over. While talking to Screen Rant for her new film The King of Staten IslandTomei was asked about what Spider-Man 3 will hold for Aunt May. Tomei couldn't reveal much, but she was able to share her hopes for Aunt May's arc. "Well, I've had her - [director] Jon Watts and I always talked about her being a community organizer," she said. "And hopefully that track will expand and be part of this one, as well."

Aunt May and Peter in Spider Man Homecoming

The MCU's Spider-Man 3 was initially slated to begin production this July, but that is now in doubt because of the coronavirus pandemic. While some major films are gearing up to resume shooting soon, there are a lot of concerns about the various safety protocols that have to be put in place. Further complicating matters is Holland's commitment to Uncharted, which is scheduled for release before Spider-Man 3 and has yet to make any progress on shooting (again because of the pandemic).

Spider-Man 3's release date was pushed back to November 2021, so it's still going to be a while before fans get to see it. It'll also probably be a while before fans learn more about what the plot will entail; for the time being, the only things that are certain are the returns of Holland, Tomei, and Zendaya (as Peter's girlfriend Michelle Jones). Considering the success of Far From Home, expectations are high for Spider-Man 3and fans couldn't be more excited for it.
