As the first movie to follow the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home had a daunting task. However, the movie managed to deliver another fun teen comedy mixed with a superhero movie that further explored the hero of Spider-Man within the MCU.

Along with Tom Holland as Peter Parker, the movie brought back a lot of the fun characters from the first solo movie, some veteran MCU members, and some great new characters. The movie also had a lot of memorable lines, and looking at the first and last lines from the movie's main characters, offers some interesting insight into the story.

Mr. Harrington

J.B. Smoove as Mr. Dell Martin Starr as Mr. Harrington Spider-Man Far From Home

"Do you want the first shift or the second?" - "You’re thinking of Voltron!"

As Peter's class heads out on a European school trip, Mr. Harrington boards the plane along with fellow teacher, Mr. Dell as he organizes which will take the first shift as chaperon. During the climax of the movie, Mr. Dell notes that the elemental monsters are joining together like the Power Rangers, but Harington corrects him that it's more like Voltron.

Having Harrington as the chaperon for the trip is a funny callback to the similarly dangerous class trip in Spider-Man: Homecoming and his first line shows how nervous he is. With his final line, Harrington continues to be a goof, needlessly correcting Dell in the middle of all the chaos.

Betty

Spider-Man Far From Home Ned and Betty

"Gone. But not forgotten." - "You are so wise."

Betty is once again shown in her role as the student newscaster, delivering a humorously lackluster tribute to the heroes who died fighting Thanos. Following a short and overly-affectionate romance with Ned, Betty compliments Ned on his intelligent analysis of their mutual break-up.

Betty gets to be the first MCU character to address "the Blip" and the death of many huge characters following Endgame which is done in a surprisingly funny way. Her final line is a funny closure to the hilarious romance she and Ned briefly shared.

Happy

Spider-Man Far From Home Happy Hogan Falls For Aunt May

"Hey, sorry I’m late." - "Because we're all interconnected."

When Aunt May is hosting a charity event for victims of "the blip", Happy shows up late but with a big check from Stark Industries. When Peter confronts Happy and May about their relationship, Happy seems to think it is more serious than she does and tries to explain their connection.

The excited way in which Happy comes to the event is the first indication that there is something happening between him and May. Happy's fumbling explanation of how he thinks the relationship can grow is just a funny, awkward moment for him.

Aunt May

Peter Parker and Aunt May in Spider-Man Far From Home

"When I blipped back to my apartment, the family living there was very confused." - "We are."

While hosting the charity event, May tells the story of when she returned from the blip and found another family in her house which caused a lot of drama. As she and Happy find themselves disagreeing about their relationship, she just awkwardly lets him ramble on.

The first line is an example of how the movie takes a more comedic approach to the blip and its implications. The final line is just a part of the funny and embarrassing exchange between May and Happy.

Nick Fury

"Locals say the cyclone had a face." - "Who's got my shoes?"

The movie opens with Nick Fury and Maria Hill investigating reports of a cyclone that seemed to be alive in Mexico. In the movie's second post-credit scene, Fury is revealed to be in space as he gets back to work, looking for his shoes.

The first line shows that Fury is still exploring the strange and unexplained occurrences on Earth in the aftermath of Thanos. While his line about his shoes is just a throwaway joke, the revelation that he is in space seems to set up some fun possibilities for the future.

Flash

Flash Thompson looking in awe at something in Spider-Man: Far From Home

"Yo, Parker! This is called an airplane. It's like the buses you're used to except it flies over the poor neighborhoods instead of driving through them." - "Oh."

As the class boards the plane for their trip, Flash Thompson mocks Peter for having never flown before. When the kids return home after the trip, Flash finds that his parents were too busy to come pick him up at the airport which he sadly reacts to.

Flash's first line reintroduces him as the stuck-up bully who is always picking on Peter. His final line is an interesting glimpse into why he is such a jerk and a tease to his own sad life which could perhaps develop into something.

Ned

Spider-Man Far From Home Ned and Betty

"Okay." - "Thank you."

At the beginning of the movie, Ned skeptically listens to Peter as he details his plan for wooing MJ while on their trip. At the end of the movie, following his mature break-up with Betty, Ned thanks her for her compliment.

With his first line, Ned is once again shown to be Peter's loyal friend who isn't afraid to call him out and disagree with him. The final line is nothing special and once again just wraps up the funny storyline with his overly-sweet romance with Betty.

MJ

zendaya at the opera house

"What up, dorks? Excited about the science trip?" - "Be safe."

MJ greets Peter and Ned with her typical dry humor while they get ready for their trip. At the end of the movie, MJ and Peter are dating and she bids Peter farewell as he goes off to do some crime-fighting.

MJ's first line is a quick reminder that she is a very different version of MJ than previous movies and also shows she is becoming better friends with Peter and Ned. Her final line is just a sweet moment, now that she knows Peter is Spider-Man, of carrying for him as he goes to work.

Mysterio

Mysterio surrounded by his drones in Spider-Man: Far From Home

"Who are you?" - "Spider-Man's name is Peter Parker."

When the cyclone monster appears in Mexico, Mysterio arrives to battle it, but unexpectedly runs into Nick Fury and Maria Hill. Following his death, Mysterio has a video released framing Spider-Man for the attacks and revealing to the world that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.

Mysterio asking who Fury and Hill are is a funny moment as that is the question everyone is asking about him as soon as he shows up. With his final line, Mysterio shows he can still win even in death as he throws Peter's entire life upside down in a matter of seconds.

Peter Parker / Spider-Man

Tom Holland in Spider-Man Far From Home

"I have a plan." - "What the f―?!"

During the morning school newscast, Jason wonders if the Avengers are even still around and if anyone has a plan for the future before it cuts to Peter detailing his own plans for wooing MJ. As Peter watches Mysterio reveals his identity to the world, all he can do is throw up his hands and curse.

Peter's first line is a nice reminder that even though there are all these intergalactic threats out there, Peter is still just a high school kid with his own priorities. His final line is a nice callback to Aunt May's final line in Homecoming when she discovers Peter's identity.
