After five previous movies centered on the web-slinging superhero, the Marvel Cinematic Universe took their chance with Spider-Man. This fresh take starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker were even bigger hits than the originals and Spider-Man: No Way Home is even more highly anticipated than the prior entries.
There are many things that make this version so special and beloved, with a huge part of it being how great the characters are. Each of them has had plenty of opportunities to shine, whether heroes, villains, friends, or family. Throughout it all, they've had at least one scene that stands out as their most iconic.
Mr. Harrington - His Story About His Wife
For the most part, Mr. Harrington (Martin Starr) is just around for comic relief purposes and to be the adult watching over Peter and his classmates. Likely because of Starr's impressive comedic chops, Mr. Harrington is someone who is funny often without even trying.
In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mr. Harrington rearranges everyone's seats on the plane and ends up sitting next to Peter. He hilariously tells the story of how his wife pretended to be blipped out so she could run off with another man. The deadpan delivery on the line and his talk of how they had a funeral and everything made this memorable.
Nick Fury - Meeting Peter Parker
By the time Far From Home came around, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) was as established as it gets within the MCU, having been around for over a decade by this point. However, he had never had the chance to interact with Peter Parker.
They apparently met in passing at Tony Stark's funeral but Nick Fury really got to introduce himself in Far From Home. He did so in typical spy fashion, sneaking into Peter's room and shooting Ned with a tranquilizer. Although this ended up being a Skrull and not actually Nick Fury, it still worked.
Happy Hogan - Talking With Peter On The Plane
For most of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) wants nothing to do with Peter Parker and brushes off most of his messages as mere annoyances. With Tony Stark gone in Far From Home, Happy grows closer to Aunt May and is much kinder to Peter.
When things go terribly after his first true encounter with Mysterio, Peter contacts Happy to pick him up. While on the plane, Happy was there for Peter in a way that most others couldn't be because he knew Tony Stark so well. It was the ultimate bonding moment for Peter and Happy.
Aunt May - Finding Out The Truth About Spider-Man
Although fans love Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and she clearly plays a big role in Peter's life, she hasn't had a ton of memorable or iconic scenes. She gives sage advice, helps Peter get ready for things like dances, and acts as an important mother figure for him.
Her most memorable moment is actually just truly a single moment. At the end of Homecoming, Peter arrives home and removes the mask from his Spider-Man suit, not realizing that Aunt May is behind him. She let out a shocked exclamation as the film cuts out and it's perfectly done.
Quentin Beck/Mysterio - Fighting Spider-Man
The coolest thing about bringing Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) to the big screen was that his action sequences could be visually stunning. That's just what audiences got when Mysterio clashed with Spider-Man right after Peter realized that Quentin Beck was actually a bad guy.
The fight is breathtaking as he completely messes with Peter's head, showing him depictions of a zombified Iron Man, multiple versions of Mysterio, and it culminates with Spider-Man getting hit by a train. Revealing Peter's identity to the world was a close second but this was Mysterio at his height.
Adrian Toomes/Vulture - The Ride To Homecoming
There's no doubt that the most shocking moment in any Spider-Man film comes in Homecoming when it gets revealed that Liz's father is Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton). The moment Peter opens the door to greet him, he and the audience are truly stunned.
It takes Toomes a short while to even the odds and grasp who Peter is, which happens during the ride to the homecoming dance. Everything from the street light reflection on his face turning from red to green as he figures it out to his conversation with Peter is captivating and among the best scenes in the entire MCU.
Ned Leeds - Guy In The Chair
There aren't a ton of sidekicks in the MCU but Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) is certainly the most eager to hold that position. As soon as he discovers that Peter is Spider-Man, he is extremely excited about it. In fact, he wants nothing more than to be Peter's "guy in the chair."
To him, that's the dude who stays behind and helps the hero from a safe position while giving instructions and advice via computer. Ned got to live out that dream at the end of Homecoming when he sat in the school's computer lab to help Peter drive Flash's car and track down Vulture. Even when he gets caught, it makes for a fun scene.
MJ - Figuring Out Peter Parker Is Spider-Man
Throughout most of Homecoming, Michelle Jones (Zendaya) is basically a background player who pops up every once in a while to steal a scene or two. As part of her expanded role in Far From Home, she grows closer to Peter due to their romantic interest in one another.
MJ is a smart girl and Peter's constant lies and odd behavior were never going to fool her. She gets a shining moment when she confronts Peter and flat out admits that she figured out that he's Spider-Man. Although she claims she's only 67% sure, she gets it totally right and that changes their relationship.
Tony Stark - The Suit Speech
A major change with these takes on Spider-Man was the inclusion of Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) as the mentor figure for Peter. For most of Homecoming, he treats Peter like a kid and Peter feels neglected even when Tony comes to help him.
Tony chastised Peter for his actions and said he'd take back the suit he provided him with. When Peter said he was nothing without his suit, Tony said that means he doesn't deserve to have it. It was the kind of tough love that Peter needed at the time.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man - Lifting Rubble
Considering how often Spider-Man had been depicted on screen to this point, it would take something spectacular for him to stand out and have his own iconic moment. The MCU delivered in Homecoming as after having his suit taken by Tony, Peter found himself in a dire situation.
Vulture destroyed a building with him in it, putting Peter under what had to be tons of rubble. In a moment lifted straight from the comics, Peter found the strength to get to his feet and lift the rubble, proving that he could be special without the suit and it set him up to save the day in the end.
