In spite of his young age, Skaar somehow appears to be fully grown – or close to it – in the She-Hulk: Attorney At Law finale. Introduced in She-Hulk episode 9, Skaar is the son of the Hulk and the subject of the show’s mysterious Smart Hulk teases. It would seem that the boy was conceived between the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: Ragnarok, which was the period of time when Hulk was stranded on Sakaar.

Considering that Age of Ultron was set in 2015 and She-Hulk takes place sometime in 2024, Skaar can’t be any older than nine years of age. Somehow, Skaar aged so quickly that he’s already an adult, or at the very least, a teenager. The character being so old is consistent with the comics, which also introduced him with a fully-grown look. As for how that could be, the answer lies with his mother, her abilities, and her unique physiology. His mother in Marvel Comics, Caiera, is a member of a group called the Shadow People. Using a mystical energy source known as the Old Power, Caiera placed the son she shared with Hulk in a cocoon. Inside the cocoon, Skaar developed into an adult.

How Marvel Can Explain She-Hulk’s Skaar Twist

Hulk and Skaar in She-Hulk

Marvel has quite a lot to explain when the time comes for it to address Skaar’s existence in the MCU, why Hulk suddenly went into space to retrieve him, the circumstances behind his birth, and his age. In this case, the MCU won’t have to look far for answers. Assuming it follows the comics, Marvel can reveal that Hulk met Caiera on Sakaar, had a child with her, and left without ever knowing about it. If it takes several years for the metamorphosis to be complete, that could be why Smart Hulk didn’t return until the timeframe of She-Hulk’s story. Skaar’s emergence could be what prompted unseen allies of the Hulk to contact him on Earth.

What Skaar’s Future In The MCU Could Be

Regardless of the explanation for Skaar’s age, Marvel’s decision to approach the character in a comic-accurate manner sets the stage for a number of different stories to play out in the MCU. With Skaar around, Hulk has one more character who might be on his side if the original version returns and kicks off “World War Hulk” in the MCU’s future. It’s long been speculated that Marvel is building up to a World War Hulk movie, so that would certainly make sense of the MCU abruptly bringing in the Hulk’s son.

Another possibility is that Marvel plans to let Skaar fill Hulkling’s role in a Young Avengers movie. There’s currently no setup for Hulkling to exist in the MCU, which is why Skaar could be the perfect substitute for the role. But even if that scenario never comes to pass, Skaar’s introduction in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law helps the MCU deepen its lineup of Marvel Comics characters for the next generation of superheroes.
