The dust is still settling from the triumphant cinematic event that was Avengers: Endgame. Eleven years of films culminated for one heck of a ride, featuring almost every fan favorite from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and even a couple whom may have been forgotten. Joe and Anthony Russo can have some well-deserved rest, but fans are already ravenous for more. Fortunately, Marvel Studios hears them and will heed the call this July with Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The first post-Endgame MCU film aims to continue from the prior film's events and will deal with the effects of the reversing the snap, Peter Parker dealing with the loss of his mentor, and the potential consequences of time travel.

In the trailer, Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, claims to be from another dimension. Knowing the comic book character, one cannot believe every word he says. Assuming the multiverse is true, though, what does this mean for the MCU? What new possibilities are opened up by the existence of multiple dimensions? The next 10 entries will speculate on where the franchise can go once the idea is officially established. None of these are confirmed and some of the theories may be downright ridiculous, but it never hurts to dream.

Evil Versions Of Superheroes

With multiple timelines come identical different personalities. The events that led someone to becoming a beacon of justice may not have transpired in a specific timeline. As a result, it is possible that moviegoers' favorite superheroes could have ended up on the wrong side of good and evil. Seeing malicious versions of well-known characters would be an interesting wrench to throw into the franchise. The story has already worked on Star Trek several times.

Bringing Back Deceased Characters

It's still unclear whether the Avengers' time travel antics will have created the multiverse, or if it always existed. If it's the latter, then there exists the potential to bring back characters who bit the dust in Endgame and before.

It also opens the door for certain villains to make a return. If the superhero team is responsible for it, then that avenue remains close, but could be done in the future for characters who are still kicking.

Actors Playing The Same Character At The Same Time

This idea was already toyed with in Endgame to delightful effect. Seeing Captain America fight himself in New York was a highlight of the film, and finally gave the hero an opportunity to appreciate his own glorious buns. With the multiverse, this gag could be played up more, or maybe done in a more dramatic fashion.

Making The Stories Darker

Every extra universe adds countless innocent civilians and more to lose. Wiping out half the universe left people's jaws on the floor for months; just imagine what would happen if an entire universe was wiped out in the blink of an eye.

There are villains who have the power to could cause such damage, making Thanos look like a Putty Patroller. It could end up so devastating, the heroes regret going back in time at all.

Doing Story Lines Not Currently Possible

The MCU captures the spirit of comic book storytelling, but the plots tend to deviate to streamlining things for a film. In a multiverse, events could be shuffled around at the behest of writers and producers in order to tell stories that wouldn't currently make sense. Maybe in one world Hank Pym really did find the Avengers, or Frank Castle was a Vietnam veteran instead of the current universe's updated take on the character. The possibilities are truly endless.

Different Actors Playing The Same Superhero

Certain superheroes aren't exclusively attached to the character, and Endgame sets up the prospect of having Falcon play Captain America in future films. In a lore with multiple dimensions, these heroes could end up coming face to face.

They could also be the same character, simply changed by the different lives they've led in their respective worlds. The MCU has always delighted people with its mix of science fiction and fantasy, but this could get downright freaky.

Bringing Current Marvel Film Franchises Into The MCU

X2: X-Men United

When a character who already has films under their belt is brought into the MCU, they are typically rebooted. While this is logical, it does disappoint some fans that those prior stories are rendered null and void. What if, however, those other films were simply different timelines that existed within the MCU?

With Disney now in charge of 21st Century Fox, the X-Men could be introduced into the MCU without having the reboot the whole franchise. The Fantastic Four, on the other hand, is better off with a clean slate.

Rebooting Superhero Stories In The Same World

It's hard to say how long the MCU will last, but it shows no signs of stopping. Certain characters within the universe may grow stale, though, or actors may leave the franchise. If this happened and they required a fresh start, the same character could potentially be rebooted within the same lore. It would be a real head trip, but audiences would be smart enough to understand.

Risk Becoming Too Convoluted

Not every possibility stirred up by this concept is a good one. Having a multiverse runs the risk of becoming too confusing and hard to follow. Everyone loves a good cerebral story, but not if it is outlandish and illogical. If it becomes overly perplexing, audiences may check out altogether.

Bringing Back Tobey Maguire And Andrew Garfield

Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was a massive success. It stands to reason that MCU would tackle this story eventually. With the implications of a multiverse, that time may come sooner than expected. If they do this bizarre story, they better go all the way and bring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield into the mix.

With Tobey, it would be awesome for audiences to see an older Spider-Man and the effect age has on the character. With Andrew, it would finally give him the chance to star in a good Spider-Man film.
