A new character revealed for What If...? season 2 proves that the MCU still can't escape from the Infinity Stones. Several projects in the MCU's Infinity Saga dealt with the importance of the Infinity Stones, culminating in Thanos collecting all six in Avengers: Infinity War and snapping his fingers to erase half of the population of the universe. While Avengers: Endgame saw the Infinity Stones destroyed and their replacements returned to their original timelines, one corner of the MCU's Multiverse Saga has presented new stories featuring the cosmic gems, and this is set to continue during Phases 5 and 6.Marvel Studios' What If...? premiered as part of the MCU's Phase 4, providing an insight into alternate realities across the multiverse. Jeffrey Wright voiced the Watcher, an omniscient being who observed action unfold in a variety of new universes, including seeing the rise of Captain Carter instead of Captain America, the destruction of a universe by Strange Supreme, and a world infested by Quantum Virus zombies. Along with adding twists to established MCU storylines, What If...? is set to expand in future seasons, which includes introducing MCU original characters such as Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman who discovers yet another Infinity Stone.Related: Marvel Zombies: Cast, New Zombies & Everything We Know

What If…? Season 2 Will Make The MCU’s First Infinity Stone Important Again

What If...? season 2 will feature several MCU alumni, like Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, Cynthia McWilliams voicing Gamora, and Cate Blanchett as Hela. Marvel has also recently revealed a new character for What If...? season 2, Kahhori, who will set out to discover her power after the Tesseract crashes in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America. Not only will this episode shine a light on Native American culture in the MCU, but it'll put an Infinity Stone back in the spotlight.

What If...? season 1 saw Ultron collect all six Infinity Stones and wage war across the multiverse, and What If...? season 2 is set to prove that the Infinity Stones are still at the center of the MCU, even though they were destroyed in Avengers: Endgame. Captain America: The First Avenger gave the MCU its first taste of the Tesseract, which went on to become one of the most moved-around and sought-after gems in the Infinity Saga. It now seems that the Tesseract will gift Kahhori some remarkable abilities, suggesting they are still huge plot points in alternate realities, and the main MCU might be worse off for not having them.

Could Kahhori Crossover Into The Live-Action MCU?

As Kahhori is an MCU original character, Marvel Studios has complete freedom with her introduction in What If...? season 2, potentially even leading to her debut in the live-action MCU. A live-action variant of Captain Carter already appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so it's possible that more characters featured in What If...? could make their way into the main continuity after What If...? season 2.
