Agents of SHIELD's earliest tease about its connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe might finally become accurate in Phase 5. As the first Marvel live-action show made by Marvel TV after the MCU's burst in popularity after The Avengers, the return of Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson for Agents of SHIELD was an attempt to expand the universe. The series was made with the intention of being part of the main MCU timeline. However, the disconnect between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV made this increasingly difficult for Agents of SHIELD's writers to explain, resulting in most MCU connections eventually going by the wayside.

This allowed the debate to grow about whether Agents of SHIELD is MCU canon. Appearances from Nick Fury, Peggy Carter, and other MCU characters and connections to a variety of movies happened routinely throughout earlier seasons of the show. The continued examples of Marvel Studios ignoring Agents of SHIELD eventually led the show to travel to the future and possibly another timeline even. It was a huge departure from the earliest way that ABC marketed the show. Originally, Agents of SHIELD and Marvel TV used "It's All Connected" to tease the show's MCU ties, but the movies failed to reference the series in any way to make that statement accurate.

Quake’s MCU Return Would Pay Off Marvel’s “It's All Connected” Tease

Quake's rumored MCU return would finally mean that Agents of SHIELD's "It's All Connected" claim is correct. There have long been rumors that Chloe Bennet would return as her Agents of SHIELD superhero in an upcoming MCU project. She has since seemingly teased that Quake's MCU return is happening in the near future, with Secret Invasion the most likely landing spot for her. Marvel Studios has yet to confirm whether Chloe Bennet is playing Daisy Johnson in the Disney+ series. If she does, there is still a chance that the MCU's Quake will be different, making Agents of SHIELD's original version a variant.

Regardless of if Chloe Bennet returns as Quake from Agents of SHIELD's continuity or as a slightly rebooted version, her return alone would be the first example of the MCU referencing the show in any capacity. Much like how Charlie Cox's Daredevil return links the MCU to the Netflix Marvel shows in some capacity, the same is true for Agents of SHIELD's relationship to the MCU if Chloe Bennet plays Quake again. It would finally make #ItsAllConnected a true statement, as Agents of SHIELD would either be confirmed to take place in the main MCU timeline or exist within the larger MCU multiverse.

Will Other Agents of SHIELD Characters Return To The MCU With Quake?

The MCU bringing Quake back opens the door for other Agents of SHIELD characters to also return in the future. The possibility of Secret Invasion including Chloe Bennet's Daisy Johnson would in theory allow several other Agents to appear since the show does star Nick Fury and is connected to the spy side of Marvel's story. That could include seeing Coulson again, having Ming-Na Wen's Melinda May return, or giving Adrianne Palicki's Mockingbird a spinoff finally. However, the MCU bringing Quake back could be a singular decision and not a greater indication of plans to incorporate her Agents of SHIELD co-stars into the future too.
