Without a doubt, the MCU has gotten progressively funnier with every phase. Phase 3 brought some of the greatest comedic characters in superhero movies of all time from teenage Groot to Ant-Man to revamped Thor.

So far, Phase 4 has not disappointed and has brought a refreshing dose of comedy with both new and returning characters. These characters bring a range of slapstick to more subtle forms of humor that keep audiences laughing and coming back for new experiences.

Wanda Maximoff

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda in WandaVision

A surprise comedian from WandaVision is Wanda Maximoff herself. The typically serious and sorrowful Wanda made a great comedic leading lady in the first few episodes of the series. "I assure you; I'm married to a man. A human one and tall, " she says in the first episode.

This was a refreshing new take on the character and helped to put her on an entirely new arc. Once reality starts to make itself more apparent throughout the series, Wanda returns to her usual personality but hopefully, this is not the end of Wanda's comedic streak.

Kingo

Kingo dancing on his movie set in The Eternals

Kingo enters the MCU in a way that only one other hero has done before (Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy): dancing. This scene provides an immediate introduction to Kingo's personality as a boisterous and colorful character who supplies much of the comedic relief in Eternals. Kingo's love for fame and storytelling has given him a long-standing career in Bollywood for four generations.

One of his funniest scenes has Kingo explain his movie posters throughout the decades. Another funny moment comes when he sees Makkari and Druig flirting and he says, "Is this new? Because I hate it." His humor is characterized by cockiness, sarcasm, and honesty which definitely rubs some characters the wrong way.

Loki

Loki looking confused in episode 1 of Loki

The humor brought to the MCU by Loki is what has made him a popular character. This is what keeps him coming back to life and has granted him two seasons of the Loki series on Disney+. Loki shines in the lead role in the new series and infuses more of the behind-the-scenes humor of Tom Hiddleston into the character that producers enjoyed witnessing during the filming of previous Loki appearances in the MCU.

Loki's humor is rarely intentional and is usually based on the circumstances he gets himself into or in his self-aggrandizing. This makes his relationship with Mobius, who is constantly pointing this out, even more entertaining.

Agatha Harkness

Agatha Harkness floating in the air in WandaVision

Agatha enters the MCU as the nosy neighbor, Agnes, in WandaVision. Agnes' sense of humor in the series is what makes her suspicious. Agnes always "drops by" Wanda's house at key moments delivering one-liners attempting to draw the real Wanda out. Although she pretends to be a friend to Wanda, her jokes are always sarcastic and often take a dark turn, especially towards the end of the season.

With the big reveal, "It was Agatha all along!" Agnes tells Wanda her true identity but her humor remains intact. The song was a hit among audiences and was one of the most memorable moments of the series.

Katy Chen

Awkwafina in Shang-Chi

Shang Chi's best friend and sidekick Katy is a hilarious new addition to the MCU in Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. Katy is feisty, foul-mouthed, and blunt. Most of her comedic moments come from her reactions to Shang Chi's true identity and the world he comes from. When she learns Shang Chi's real name, she sarcastically replies, "You changed your name from Shang to Sean?... I wonder how your father found you?"

Her responses to the events and other characters they meet along the way are always over the top and loud, making audiences laugh when they might otherwise be surprised or scared. It will be fun to see how Katy's humor evolves as she becomes a hero alongside Shang Chi and she no longer needs to sing "Hotel California" to face fights.

Karun

Karun the Valet smiling in Eternals

Kingo's personal valet and assistant, Karun, is the surprise scene-stealing character in Eternals. One of the funniest things about Karun is his endless supply of cameras. Every time one is destroyed in a fight sequence, he quickly replaces it with another.

Karun's good-natured and wholesome perspective is a refreshing contrast to the other characters and usually leads to laughs. When Kingo shoots a deviant Karun says, "verrrrry nice sir." When Kingo hears this and notices that Karun is in the thick of the fight he yells, "Are you mental? Hide!" and Karun replies, "We need action sequences!" It all works perfectly.

Kate Bishop

Kate Bishop shooting her arrow in Hawkeye

From Disney+'s newest series, Hawkeye, Kate Bishop makes a plucky young sidekick for Clint Barton. Kate starts their relationship fangirling over Clint and trying to gain his approval saying, "Some people have actually called me the world's greatest archer," to which Clint hilariously replies, "Yeah, are you one of those people?" Kate then confesses, "Well, one of them is. Yes."

Throughout the series, the playful banter continues, and eventually the two become trusted friends. Kate's sense of humor is light-hearted, innocent, and helps to energize scenes. Hawkeye hasn't officially handed over the title to Kate Bishop yet so hopefully, there are more comedic moments between these two in the future.

Spiderman Number 3, AKA Andrew Garfield

Spider-Man unmasked in The Amazing Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield made a triumphant return to the role of Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home to the delight of fans. His comeback moment was marked by a hilarious exchange between him, Ned, MJ, and Ned's grandmother. MJ asks Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man to prove who he is by throwing bread at him to see if he has "the tingle thing." He replies, "I have the tingle thing, just not for bread."

He then hangs from the ceiling and is finally convinced by Ned's grandmother to crawl across and clean up spiderwebs in the corner. Another great moment is when he tells the other Spider-Men that he loves them and draws them into a big group hug. In many ways, this was the best iteration of Garfield's Peter Parker.

Mobius

Mobius gesturing with his thumb in Loki

In many ways, Mobius M. Mobius is the breakout star of the Loki series. Nearly everything he says leads to a laugh and the banter between Loki and Mobius is one of the highlights of the show. Mobius keeps Loki in check by countering all of his self-indulgent ramblings. When Loki says he will not stab Mobius in the back he responds, "Loki, I've studied almost every moment of your entire life. You've literally stabbed people in the back, like, 50 times."

Mobius' love of jet skis is also a funny quirk that shows up several times in the show. Out of everything Mobius has seen in all of the timelines throughout history, the one thing he believes is a shining moment was the invention of the jet ski. He calls it the "perfect union of form and function." Hopefully, the MCU's favorite TVA agent will make a comeback and finally get to take a ride on a jet ski.

Yelena Belova

Yelena with her sriracha

The funniest new addition to the MCU is Black Widow's adopted younger sister, Yelena Belova. In her MCU debut in Black Widow, audiences loved when she made fun of her sister's poses and gushed about the pockets in her cargo vest. After this successful reception, fans were excited to see her cameo in Hawkeye in December.

Her comedic genius shines brightest during a scene with Kate Bishop in her one-fork apartment as the two share a pot of instant mac and cheese and she asks for sightseeing advice for New York. From her mannerisms to her playful and snarky comments, Yelena Belova is a loveable character.
